I taught for two years in the US Virgin Islands at a small private K-12 school. It wasn't a public school do I didn't need certification.

Its a pretty good school and many of our students are accepted into the best schools in the states.

If you want to try teaching an actual subject in an international setting, you should give the VI a try. If you are deciding if you want to be a certified teacher, this would be the place to test the waters-warm, tropical water.

Not too much money can be saved but you will spend your weekends on the beach, sailing, hiking, etc.... Plus, it will give teaching experience outside of ESL.

Look at vimovingcenter.com for more info or PM me. Now is the time to find a job for September.

Locals. Depends on where you are. There are different communities of people but I enjoyed hanging out with teachers and sailors the most.

Also, I loved my students and their families so much--something that will never happen here! Its a small school so you know almost everybody very well, from the French-Hatian janitors to the Principal. Also, the island has only 50,000 people!

However, there are also places that you don't go. Its like anywhere in the Caribbean or a major city. You can go here but you never go there.

my cousin and his wife taught in the Cayman Islands for... 7 years? Talk about the life! They're all private schools in Cayman.

They just made sure they were gone for a good part of hurricane season.

Does a day go by when you don't hear a bad joke about the name of those islands when living there?
