They start out at 900,000 and max out at 1,200,000 at my Hogwan.

When discussing the situation in Daejeon with some of my Korean friends this came up. They certainly dont think I am paid too much and are more angry at the Koreans' pay. A Filipino in my neighborhood who is married to a Korean is making 600,000 a month working full time.

I also shared with them over Sam Gyup Sal that I am the only one in my family out of 3 other siblings who has a BA degree. As much as it sounds funny, this does make me the "elite" of my home country , as written in the recent Korean Herald article.

They can not come here and teach in a lowly Hogwan; like they would even want to. One of my brothers makes 60 grand a year and my sister much more.

1 sibling out of 4 is exactly representative of Americans with BA's. What if that figure was less?

I think they are lucky to have the one sibling out of the old average of 4 to a family potentially available as a hogwan teacher. Since there are only one to two children produced now per family , that means that each parent produces a half of a POSSIBLE ( if he goes to college) hogwan teacher on average.

I am tired of my self concept taking a nose dive because I came to Korea to teach English.

Nothing similar was said went I " went out west" , to Las Vegas. The whole town is from somewhere else.

And a lot of them are Koreans.

One out of 10 of my friends was Korean when I was there.
