French is spoken in many homes in northern New Hampshire and Vermont.

German is spoken quite famously throughout Pennsylvania.

I know of many Italian speaking homes in Massachusetts, in the New Bedford and Fallriver area of Mass. Portugese is spoken.

Multilingual, the post-debate spin will no doubt be yes bilingual fails it's multilingual that is successful.

yes, but i wouldn't use them as an example to dispute the argument that bilingual countries don't work.

Why? Language isn't the problem in the Philippines...Corruption, some racial issues and religious differences seem to be more the problem then anything...

I'm sure many here could add to that list.

How about S. Africa? Other African nations could be included in your list. I'd also add Singapore which has 4 official languages. Indonesia also.

I wouldn't use Canada either. We keep shoving more and more billions at Quebec...and it gets us nowhere

So says Albertan oil executives and their supporters.

The population of Quebec is in excess of the combined population of seven of the ten provinces (including Alberta in that calculation!).

Canada is not a failed state.

(66% of Canadians live in Central Canada (Ontario and Quebec) and so it's no surprise where tax funds end up. I say that as a B.C.er, from a province that's third in population, but gets less than that in federal funding.)

The problem with a lot of african states is that the local language is seldom an official language.

But yeah, I agree with what you are saying Smile.

I was so suprised when I first heard a person from the Philippines talking - they used a combination of tagalog, English and Spanish all in the same sentences.

Why thank you sweetie....awww you shouldn't have. Ontario if you must know.

I think we should call their bluff and say "go ahead leave". They never will since they need our cash to stay afloat. They have one of the most bloated public services ever. Time to start cutting.

(Note to self: Now I remember why I don't post so much here anymore.)
