I may be doing somthing foolish, but I decided to pretty much avoid Korean food; I was never a fan of spicy food. Is it a mistake? Perhaps. But it's my mistake to make. What's everyone elses opinion on the food here?

A very, very large part of the enjoyment of living here is in the eating and drinking culture.

To be blunt: you're missing out.

Harsh words. That's like saying that a Korean Student in Canada or America should only eat Western foods.

Oh, in my apartment I never cook Korean food.

But I have eaten out 4-5 nights a week for years here, dropped to 1-3 in the last year simply by the distance I find myself from a good selection of Korean restaurants.

There are DOZENS of kinds of Korean restaurants. It'll take you a year at least of eating out regularly to exhaust the intitial experience of discovery. And there are PLENTY of Korean dishes without hot pepper spice.

Cooking your own Korean food is a little harder ... I find whatever I try to make never ends up tasting the same as when made by someone who knows what they're doing.

Korean food is great. Somethings might not be for some, but eat what you like.

Korean food is cheap and tasty. Why bother cooking unless you're craving some Western food you can't get at a restaurant?

My Korean gf has expressed to me several times that I like Korean food more than she does. I still cook tons of western food at home though. Cool

Heh..like there are only about 10 cuisines. Here's one expat food blog I know.

I found some list of 맛집(restaurants known for specialties).
