depends if you want a korean ring go to Jongro 3 ga, if you want western style go to a lotte department store. Not retail, but the only place to buy a real diamond and a good style. |

The best place in Seoul to buy diamonds is not in Seoul.
There are HUGE import tariffs on diamonds coming into Korea and you will pay more than double what you would pay elsewhere.
Grab one of Cathay pacific's vist hong kong packages for about 500k won. You get the ring and weekend getaway for the same price you would pay for the ring here. If you are looking for a larger stone (.5 - 1.0ct) the saving is even more substancial - the savings would pay for the weekend getaway AND the honeymoon.
Negotiate and buy the ring in HK. The money you save on the ring will more than pay for the cost of the weekend away.
There are LOTS of great shop along the golden mile of Nathan street in Kowloon.
In May 2007 I bought a ladies diamond solitare ring, 18k gold band, .33ct VVS1, color G, brilliant cut for the grand sum of 700k won.
A similar ring in Seoul was shown to me and the quoted price was 1.2 million.
As the diamond size goes up the difference goes up in similar fashion. |

Im not looking for anything too substantial. Ive got my eye on a 14k white gold band 0.10 ct diamond for $334 duty free at Lotte Dept. Thats about all the diamond lingo I know..
Is it worth doing the trip for a $3-$400 ring? |

Try Costco, they have some really nice stuff and the best prices on diamonds I've seen in Korea. Plus the quality is certified and backed with the best and easiest return policy I know! |

No, the saving would only pay for 1/2 of the trip.
You realize that back home that same ring sells for about 150k won and about 120k won in HongKong.
Perhaps a cubic zirconia for now and a real diamond later? |

If it's for an engagement, why do you feel the need to show it with a ring?
Get a tattoo instead
Or matching nipple piercings. |

I have an absolutely gorgeous ring that I would consider parting with for the right price.
It's platinum with a .9 carat center diamond. Then there's 34 round and baguette diamonds surrounding in an engraved pave setting. The overall style is art deco. It looks antique.
The catch is that it's only a size 4. And it's used, so most K-girls and some western girls would maybe not be interested in having it as a wedding/engagement ring. But it's BEAUTIFUL. I got compliments on it every day when I wore it, and I still do when I wear it on occasion.
It was a spendy little thing, with high quality diamonds. I love it, even though it no longer has sentimental value for me. I'd only part with it for about a month's salary. I can email pictures.
