|
|
I was supposed to start teaching in a public school this September, but just now found out that they cannot be bothered to tell me where I will be teaching until the end of their orientation, which is at some mysterious point at the end of August. My contract ends July 31st. I need to move SOMEWHERE. There is no way that I'll pay movers to move me to some random place in Korea and then pay them to move me again later that month. No way.
So, looks like I will NOT be an EPIK teacher after all. Oh well....guess I'll just stay in the hagwon system. At least they don't try to keep your location a secret until the last minute.
EDIT: Okay, called the recruiter. Her boss is going to call the Board of Education to see if they could possibly tell me where I'll be working SOONER than a few days before I start teaching. I really think that EPIK does not take into consideration that people already in Korea already have lives (and possessions) in Korea and need to know an address to tell the moving company and all that. *sigh* I have a bad feeling about this. I'm incredibly disappointed because I was really looking forward to teaching in a public school. If they can't tell me WHERE next week, then I'm going to be job hunting again. |

Stay on the recruiter they will tell you.. I was in the same situation as you were going from a hagwon to a public school and they told me exactly where I was going... the end of august is when the new semester starts after summer vacation. your contract date will be somewhere from aug 30 to sept 1.. funny though i didnt have to do the orientation ... so get on your recruiter they will or should help you out.
What location are you in? |

We got an e-mail last week asking who is staying and you is not staying at their schools. Some of the teachiners have not decited yet what they are going to do after their contracts.
If you know a town that you want to move to in Gangwon-do. Tell your recuiter that is where you want to teach. |

Easy,
Tell your recruiter that you have spoken to another recruiter and they can give you a definite area and school.
Like magic she will be able to as well. |

I didn't accept an EPIK offer for exactly the same reason. Two years on I'm so happy that I actually chose my school and some bureaucrat didnt' arbitrarily place me. |

There's no excuse for EPIK to not give the newbie a definite placement location. When I got accepted by JET, I was due to start in July and I got the name of my city and school AND my apartment address in May. |

F epik. When I applied in March I asked for a Middle school position. They told me there would be no middle school positions available until September. Low and behold, there have been new native teachers moving into my officetel teaching Middle school. |

Yeah, me too, but so what?
EPIK is nothing like JET. It's basically just another kind of recruitment programme. It is actually quite normal of EPIK to not know where they're sending people until the month, week, or even day before... which is how a lot of Korea works, anyway (and it's not like they're going to care if Wondering pulls out of the contract just because they won't tell her where's she'll be placed..) |
