Can anybody recommend a good budget priced zip drive for backing up stuff (100Gb would probably suffice!). New or used is OK.
On ebay I seen some with insertable disks; are they any good?
I may also purchase one for my parents in the UK, if reasonably priced.

| Can't remember the word for it in Korean, but I bought a 4GB one for 40,000 on gmart.co.kr. It's the new swivel style so there's no cap to lose. |

Your best bet would be to buy a 120GB internal hard drive and just stick it into a 15,000won external (Firewire and/or USB 2.0) enclosure.
Or, if you got the extra cash laying around then buy an external hard drive. |

Yeah, probably looking for a inexpensive external hard drive.
Any suggestions, or 'definately don't buy this brand' tips?
On ebay I seen Iomega ones which to the untrained eye looked good,
and had 100Gb capacity. |

Just buy a quality internal hard drive and stick it into an external enclosure. Retail external hard drives are nothing but regular internal drives in external enclosures. Why pay the premium when you can do it yourself and save a ton of money.
My recommendation is to buy Seagate Barracuda SATAII hard drives. Not only are they great, they come with 5 year warranties. Then pick up an external enclosure of your liking. Personally, I like the all aluminum ones that don't have a fan.
If you want to get an external drive and not bother screwing in 4 small screws then buy a Western Digital My Book. |

Ahhh... the zip drive and the click of death... I once owned a zip disk, to test out to see if I should later buy a zip drive, way back in 1995-96ish. After maybe 2 weeks, the damn thing wouldn't work in any zip drive, I just heard a constant clicking sound. Luckily most of my important data was saved on some little 3'5" floresent colored floppy disk.
Anyways, yes a USB connection is good for an external hd. Also, depending on the the enclosure, you may need an extra plug-in on your power bar. |

I have a Zip100 that still works to this day.  |

Lucky you... Do you even use it now?
zip drives were not that sturdy when first released. I think all it took was one damaged drive damaging one disk and then the disk being used again in another drive and damaging that drive. Anyways, a few of my friends also had disks and it turned us off zip drives and Iomega for a long time. |

I haven't used it in about 6 or 7 years now. My wife's school computer was just.that.old. and she needed to get some files off it as the HDD was going south. The comp wouldn't do USB, so out came the parallel ZIP. Saved the day actually.
Lucky? Perhaps...if I keep it minty as it is, in ten years I may pull an Ebay with the relic.
