jesus, whats the big deal!
the worst part of all this is that she has made a huge fuss about it.
she has lost all street cred! she cried to mommy and daddy! please please dont let me go to jail! so they spend probably close to a hundred grand and the lawyers come up with all these sick , medical condition BS..
just makes her look like a little baby! and not to mention a real spoiled little biatch! ok we all knew that already but still..
not to mention she is doing time a country club!!!
a normal girl from chicago would be doing her time in a real jail!!

she should just do her time with no questions like a real woman!!
and then come out and bragg about it to all her rich girlfriends and say YEAH YEAH I been inside I know what its all about!!

man just think of it as a day of the simple life! but just 45 days!!

I am afraid that she does her time and the press are all waiting for her outside and she starts doing interviews and then does 60minutes telling how hard her time was !! OHHHHH PLEASE shoot me now!!!
if this makes her more famous I will jump off han nam bridge!!!

Rolling Eyes You do the time, you pay the time. If it was a man who pulled the same *beep* as Paris, you wouldn't have bothered to make that useless statement....

Some of you guys are incredibly mean. He's just a boy. Rolling Eyes Somehow I don't see that sentence flying across your screen anytime soon for any stupid man dumb enough to drive while under the influence and then drive with a suspended license, not one but twice! And on top of that, have the money to pay someone else to drive for them....

Sorry...Male or Female....NO PITY

Yeah well I don't know much about PH but you guys started a hate thread of somebody like you have the right to, isn't that kind of stupid?

I certainly have not expressed my hatred for Paris Hilton chiefly because there is none. I have disdain for her and I'd like to think that any adult who has had to work a day in their life would have a little bit of hmmm disdain for an adult putting on a show for breaking the law not once, not twice but thrice!

There was nothing stupid about this thread until you decided to put your 2 cents into it. Thanks for the perspective though...

No, this is a valid discussion about the special treatment of a celebrity and someone with a lot of money, while regular people are treated in a less dignified and significantly harsher manner.

Los Angeles Times wrote:

Inmates resent Hilton's special treatment
By Greg Krikorian, Times Staff Writer
June 9, 2007

If a distraught Paris Hilton expects sympathy from other women serving time at the Los Angeles County Jail in Lynwood, she could be waiting longer than the term of her sentence.

"I find it unfair that she got out so quickly," Rhonda Thompson said as she walked quickly from the stark facility Friday morning. "I didn't want to be here either. It was a nightmare."

The 36-year-old Downey resident was at the Century Regional Detention Facility to pick up her belongings after spending four days in jail for driving with a suspended license.

Like Hilton, Thompson didn't want to be behind bars. And although Hilton's medical condition was described as largely psychological, Thompson said she has painful fibroid tumors on her uterus.

"If she had a medical problem, I'd like to see her top mine," Thompson said as she and her husband left the jail.

Minutes later, Robbie Davenport, 42, of Hollywood also left the jail, after spending 45 days in custody on a 90-day sentence for violating probation by driving.

Unlike Thompson, Davenport said she had two prior arrests both for driving under the influence.

But she was every bit as angry about how the system had kept her locked up for weeks while Hilton was released after only three days.

"What's so special about her?" Davenport asked. "Do I have to stay here for 45 days just because I don't have money to pull strings?"

Thompson, Davenport and other women at the jail Friday said they knew Hilton received special treatment.

Hilton was kept in protective custody, far from the other female prisoners, the women said.

Some said that deputies even put other inmates on lockdown Thursday while Hilton walked through the jail.

The entire scene was a bit much for Valerie Jacquez, who left the jail after serving eight months for possession of a heroin syringe. Jacquez, 48, has been in jail six times and said it never gets any easier.

During her most recent stay, she said, she took medicine for seizures and multiple pills for high blood pressure.

If Hilton got such easy treatment, said Jacquez's longtime friend Ralph a veteran state corrections officer who gave only his first name for fear of reprisals then Jacquez's medical condition should have permitted her an early release.

"I am not a fan of Paris Hilton, and I don't think it's fair that she got such a big sentence," the burly corrections officer said. "But if they can go easy on her, why not Valerie too?"

Throughout the morning and afternoon, as prisoners exited carrying their belongings in small freezer bags or large plastic ones, they and their family members seemed bothered, but hardly surprised, at how Hilton's treatment was different from theirs.

"She should have served her whole time," said Shannon, 33, from Santa Clarita, who declined to give her last name.

Though she is bipolar and has epilepsy, Shannon said, she spent four weeks in jail for her third drug conviction.

Her uncle shook his head about the accommodations made for Hilton.

"When people like that come in, the people inside know that it just shows everyone how there are two separate systems in the law," Robert Anthony said.

"There is one for the upper class and one for the [rest]. If you have money, you can pretty much get off for anything."

Outside, half a dozen African American community leaders said the incident involving Hilton underscored how medical treatment must be improved in the county's jail system.

"We have dozens of women here who have serious medical issues, but they don't have money or fame or connections," said Earl Ofari Hutchinson, president of the Los Angeles Urban Policy Roundtable.

"If you are going to provide something for Paris Hilton, you must provide it for others too," he said.

Maybe, but she's what, 25? She needs to realize that her 'fans' are starting to wonder when she'll grow up.

...yeah, as opposed to Little Kim who made a reality show about going to jail and now is probably more popular than she ever was (now that is one you have to see. You know how they say really stupid people tend to have delusions of grandeur? It's like watching Jerry Springer except that the people aren't poor.)

Although celebrities - and wealthy people in general - have been perceived as being able to "get away with murder" (especially in California...) it's mainly because they can afford to get better legal representation.

Perhaps the judge in this case was trying to deflect criticism of that systemic defect. More likely, he was just pandering to public opinion when he overuled the sheriff's decision to release her to house arrest. Some legal experts have expressed that he overstepped his authority when he threatened to charge the sheriff with contempt of court...

I doubt that public interest is really served by having a young rich, spoiled female celebrity serve more than a few days in a regular prison with many hardened criminal types, some of which would naturally try to prey on her.

The Sheriff pointed out that (because of severe overcrowding) the current policy in that jurisdiction for ordinary people convicted of the same type of offenses is to release them with very little or no jail time.

Because of her tabloid media image - and that of other occasionally out-of-control celebrities like Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan - the general public wants the law to be especially tough, partly to send a message to their young fans, and partly just to enjoy the media spectacle of their suffering and humiliation...

Some lawmakers even want to bring back some form of public flogging for its effectiveness as a deterrent. Of course, that ain't about to happen in a society where it's so easy for even a kid to get a gun...

But if the government played its cards right, they could generate lots of revenue, I think, by selling media rights (and PPV ) to corporal punishment sentences handed out to Paris, Britney, Lindsay and other attractive law-breakers for whom fines and imprisonment wouldn't be appropriate (unless the fines were much higher and the imprisonment much safer than under the current system ...)

Thanks Rteacher for the in-depth explanation.

I still have no idea who Paris Hilton is nor do I care. I think what most people are complaining about is the leeway in the American legal system that allows the rich to defend themselves better and in fact get off fairly lightly (OJ Simpson anyone?).

But seriously leave the poor girl alone, she looks seriously depressed in some of those photos.

Money can only level the playing field in the criminal justice system. The state has vast resources. Poor people cant present as good a case as the rich. You still have to face the jury or judge no matter what.

Paris Hilton is paying for OJ and Micheal Jackson. If I did the same thing she did, no way am I doing time.

Well, she's apparently decided (with the likely help of her PR consultants...) to try to tough it out without further appeals for early release. Of course, she's gonna be somewhat drugged up (mainly Valium and Lithium...) throughout the ordeal...

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Paris Hilton has not eaten or slept since arriving at the medical ward of a Los Angeles jail and is being given psychotropic drugs, celebrity Web site TMZ.com reported on Saturday, citing law enforcement sources.

Nevertheless, the socialite and hotel heiress said late on Saturday afternoon that she had told her attorneys not to appeal the order that sent her back to jail on Friday after a day of house arrest.

"Being in jail is by far the hardest thing I have ever done," Hilton, 26, said in a written statement issued by her attorney, Richard Hutton. "During the past several days, I have had a lot of time to think and I believe that I am learning and growing from this experience." ...

This is from the article Fresh Prince put up on this thread:

Quote:

In the story, Davenport did the exact same thing that Paris Hilton did and she had to serve 45 days. Nothing fair about that in my opinion. And the point is that it wasn't 1 thing she did, it was 3 and 2 of them...Hell, all three of them were preventable.

I have no pity for someone with enough money to have someone drive her to get a burger (she got busted for DUI while driving to a burger joint) and more than enough money to be chauffeured around for the rest of her existence if she choose to (driving with a suspended license TWICE).

She went to court, they handed down the sentence and I see no reason for her to be somehow above the law and start weeping over it. You reap what you sow...
