Well, I've just said goodbye to another friend. Two year friendship that can now only be carried on in msn, emails and maybe the occasional vacation gathering.
I like most everything about the lifestyle I've chosen. It's really hard for me to make friends and watch them leave tho.
I handle it by remembering some sage advice i once heard. Don't be sad because it's over. Be happy that it even happened. Makes me feel like a zen jedi master guy...
When people leave, new people come. Opportunity for new friendships. Don't know if that's such a great thing tho.
Anyway, here's to all the people who have moved on. |

One striking difference between Korea and Japan is that people started coming here to teach ESL a lot earlier, and many stayed and really got set up. People seem to stay longer in Japan and get settled. Thus, there is a very big and rather amazing expat community, well there is in Nagoya. A stunningly fine array of good folks with real life long bonds who are really there for each other. I guess a lot has to do with marrying Japanese women and finding good long term jobs. It really affects the social scene in a positive way though. |
