So, maybe Moore isn't a complete "scumbag" after all?

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19113385/site/newsweek/

Quote:
June 8, 2007 - Jim Kenefick, 36, is the founder of Moorewatch.com, one of the Web's most visited anti-Michael Moore sites. So imagine Kenefick's surprise when he received a friendly voice mail last monthfrom Moore himself, calling from the Cannes Film Festival premiere of his agitprop documentary Sicko. The lefty filmmaker had two things to tell his cybercritic. First, he wanted Kenefick to know that he and his Web site appear prominently (albeit anonymously) in Sicko, his soon-to-be-released attack on the American health-care industry. In the film, Moore shows several of Keneficks blog posts where he pleads for money to keep MooreWatch.com alive because his wife's medical bills (Kenefick says she has a neurological disorder) have almost bankrupted him. He is saved at the last minute when a mysterious donor sends a $12,000 check, enough to keep the site going and pay insurance premiums for a yearwhich brought Moore to his second point. Before the world found out from his film, the filmmaker wanted his nemesis to know: he was Keneficks guardian angel. Kenefick spoke to NEWSWEEKs Tony Dokoupil about his unwitting stardom and new opinion of Michael Moore. Excerpts:

He is a "lefty" as the article called him, a left-wing liberal, which means...

he not only believes in healthcare for all as a basic human right but he also believes as a lefty in free speech and the value of discussion and differences of opinion in a democracy.

You gotta be an exceptionally dense far right winger to not be able to understand that.

Only $12,000?? Isn't that pocket change for Michael Moore? I know he's no Bill Gates, but he could've donated something in the 6 digit figures.

Where were Rupert Murdoch, Roger Ailes and Bill Orally? They all make millions more than Moore does, and they hate Moore, so why didn't donate anything?

All the money that Bill O Reilly gets from his website goes to charity. Is that not good enough?

I think it's more like; Michael Moore is a politician/lobbyist in sheep's clothing.

Moore being Moore aside, I am quite excited to see Sicko. Any introduction of substance to politics (and not just in America) should be welcome.

I detest Michael Moore. (IF he really wants to impress the world he should follow his own advice and movie out of those rich whiteboy houses he lives in) However donating money to your enemy to prove your point is beyond great.......good job!!

It appears he's also a nice guy, though. Never saw much about him I'd call sheepish, either ...

He's a lobbyist for his own point of view. No one is to paying him present someone else's opinions..

It is good PR for Moore. Perhaps he is a nice guy too.

He is not the first political entertainer to help out. For example Rush Limbaugh has given a lot to charity too.

Nevertheless what Moore did was a nice thing though the PR helps him too.

If he was really genuine he would have left the donation anonymous. All he is doing is buying some VERY cheap publicity.

What I like about Michael Moore is he is his own corporation : no stockholders, doesn't owe anyone anything, and he's willing to piss people off whenever it suits him to get the job done. He's big and loud and brash and rude and his opinions are his own - almost nobody agrees with EVERYthing he says, including me - and if something doesn't look exactly right, he'll get in your face about it. And sometimes, he's funny.

He's fighting the good fight, as he sees it ... in other words, he's an American. If you don't like the fight he fighting, you can fight your own. Then, you're an American, too, way I figure, or something close.

(Yeah, even if you weren't born there - the idea that the world can be better if we work to make it that way, that's an American idea. The rest of the world can use it, too, no charge. We won't mind at all.)

Cool
