It looks like I'll be spending the summer here for the first time in a while, and I'm wanting to plan a road trip down to the Mokpo/Wando/Jindo/Bogildo area. Was wondering if anyone who's been there has any advice tips, etc., especially info on where to catch ferries would be much appreciated. Thanks. |

I have been down there a few times...i like going there but during vacation it is a bit off the wall with people.
Bogildo is really good but i would recommend not going there during the summer vacation...
During vacation time it was crazy...took a ferry from lands end(땅끝 마을) and there was ZERO accomodation...i mean everything from minbak to yeogwan. Ended up paying 80 000 won for a motel room at lands End...so many cars trying to get across to the island that the queue to get on the ferry was crazy.
The other time i went was in early June(about now)...
It was deserted. Took a ferry just outside of Wando and there was a total of one other person on it(this was a wednesday though). Went to the island, stayed in a yeogwan and paid 10 000 a night(no bed though) and explored it for a couple of days...awesome. |

Thanks for the info ... because I've got about 2 months off, I'm planning to go during the week, not the weekend and my time is flexible. I was thinking of sometime in July. Do you reckon it's be off the wall with people during the work week? If so, I'll just stay home. |

Sounds like a good plan. Getting a tent and sleeping bags might be an option you might want to consider. |

I think the work week would be ideal.....just get out before saturday morning when the hordes of crowds from seoul and gyeonggido get there |

I'm a huge fan of that area - and all of Jeolla-nam-do, actually. But the islands in 시난군 are my favorites. Hard to find accomodation some places, though, and few amenities, if any, so plan wisely. |

I was in Bogildo last spring and it was beautiful.
I only had about a day and half to explore it though. I wasn't really sure where to go so I just did a lot of walking. I found a few beautiful spots, but I'm sure I missed some too.
How did you get around on the island? |

I got there from Wondo.
There are two ferry terminals at Wondo however, so be sure to take the one that is outside of town. Not the one directly in it.
The island is so beautiful. |

I walked around as well.....
i walked from where the ferry stops to where the row of pine trees are, up the mountain and down the other side.....
On the other days i just went for little strolls....and read a lot.

I think wando will be a batter bet, the terminal is about 10 kilometres out of the city going south-west away from wando..
price, i am not sure but for a car you could expect maybe 20 000 won. |
