Hi,

I'm thinking about a trip to Japan for my first vacation. Has anyone been there from Korea? Depending on the price tag of hotels, food, and other stuff, I would really like to visit Tokyo, or go to Fukuoka via Busan.

Anyone made the trip to the Rising Sun Land? If so, any advice would be helpful. How much? Visa requirements? Cheap places to go?

I went to Fukuoka a few weekends ago. I booked a package through Kangsan Travel. Two nights at Central Hotel and roundtrip ferry cost 280,000. Fukuoka was really amazing...much, much, much better than Daegu. There are a few art museums, great restaurants, places to take photos (including a wonderful park), and a lot more. I couldn't fit everything I wanted to do in my two days there.

Before I went, I exchanged 220,000 Won to Yen and I ended up spending all of that while I was there, and then some, but I was only excited because the shopping was so much better than in Korea. I assume you can get by on less.

Once in Japan, you could take the bullet train to other cities, but I hear that's quite expensive. I wish I had some time just to fly to Tokyo!

I have travelled extensively over japan and lived there for about 2 years....

I have been from korea about 10 times in the last 4 years...
Fukuoka is a good base as it is a nice and cheaper(due to the ferry) introduction but is on the bullet train line so you can be Hiroshima in 70 minutes, Nagasaki in about 2 hours, and osaka in 3.

Another good base is Kyoto, have been there 3 times in the last 6 years for holidays.....

Tokyo is what it is as well....

However i am pretty japaned out and have no plans to go back for a few years...

If you have any specific questions ask them here...

One of my Korean co-workers said she wants to go to Japan for summer holiday, and I said I'd like to go with her. I had been thinking about going to Japan after my contract is over, because it's cheaper to visit while I'm close by and then I could stay as long as I want. My thinking is if I have to pay for expensive airfare, I want to get my money's worth and stay for awhile to see as much as I can.

The problem is we only get 5 days in a row off in the summer, and my co-worker only wants to go for four days and three nights. How much can I really see? And how expensive is it to travel to different cities? I've heard the express train is quite a bit, especially if you use it to get to several cities.

I could always go back after my contract is over I guess, but with limited money I would prefer to travel to different places each time instead of going back to a place I've already experienced, as least for the time being. Any advice?
