Damn activist judges deny King George his right to destroy the constitution:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19172214/

Quote:
RICHMOND, Va. - The Bush administration cannot use new anti-terrorism laws to keep U.S. residents locked up indefinitely without charging them, a divided federal appeals court said Monday.

The ruling was a harsh rebuke of one of the central tools the administration believes it has to combat terror.

To sanction such presidential authority to order the military to seize and indefinitely detain civilians, even if the president calls them enemy combatants, would have disastrous consequences for the Constitution and the country, the court panel said.

the real question is why it took so long to get this ruling. These are the identical arguments that have been raised for the last 4 + years.

Ha ha! Harsh rebuke? Nothing is changing and Bush still gets by on executive privlege. Nothing will change until people demand it and politicians quit cutting deals AND the judicial side, challenges the phony administration with punishment and warrants.

Further it only applies to U.S. citizens? What ever happened to the "rights of man" that seminal document of which the U.S. used to shine freedom across the world? Do "rights" only apply to U.S. males and females? What of the hundreds still wrongly incognito in these prisons. ???

Really farcical, Orwellian. Last week you had the report on secret prisons. Direct evidence, testimony from the CIA agents who ran and did the dirty work. Still Bush LIES , outright lies and says there are no prisons. How can people put up with that! It all just goes on as usual, "What prison??? wink, wink, nudge, nudge, say no more."

Then you have the rendition trial in Italy, begining this week. Massive proof of abduction of an Italy citizen , to Egypt and torture. The 26 CIA agents named and accused, rightfully, yet the U.S. govt says -- we are above the law. Go blow it out your....... Yeah, really civilized this administration -- a rogue government that just breaks laws with impunity. No govt is above the law and Bush and his continual -- National security cover, has to be called out onto the carpet and kicked about.....

Nothing will change until they are brough to account and justice or this situation, process will keep perpetuating itself.

And to those who see me as "America" bashing I have this to add.....

I really believe that a few people can change the world. If they believe. So few in America do now believe and by that same criteria, by its level of dissent, can we only judge democracy and freedom. America doesn't get high marks and it is on the shame of many Americans that this man and administration, croonies, relatives, rules that roost.

I can only hope that a Whitmanian spirit will allow Americans to lift up their noses more, sniff and throw off their most times, beautiful innocence....and toss this guy out. America was and is made of better stuff.

Pink says it really well.... Dear Mr. President,

It's about damned time. Sadly, it's probably too late. We have lost all our rights. The loss of Habeus Corpus puts all of the other rights in the Bill of Rights either in jeopardy, or makes them irrelevant. Also, sadly, people don't understand the right is gone even if the dictator doesn't act to violate it. It is the simple fact that he MAY AT ANY TIME that destroys your freedom.

Americans, my brethren, are the stupidest beasts on the planet at this point in time. For chrissake, even a cow tries to get out of the mire.

There was a brief flurry of activity down in the brain stem last November, but it seems to have faded.

EDIT: Perhaps it flickers, yet:

Poll says, "Congress sucks! Do the freaking job we sent you there to do!"
Quote:

Now we have these new numbers. Approval of Congress is at a meager 27%, down nine points from January, when the Dems took over. And less than a third -- 31% -- of liberals approve of the new Congress' performance, a precipitous drop from January, when 43% of liberals approved of it. (The 31% number is the same for moderates.)

A caveat: Approval of "Congress" as a whole -- as opposed to approval of Congressional Dems or of Congressional Republicans -- is not as fine-grained a number as we would like in gauging public support for Congress or for specific initiatives such as its Iraq policies. And other polls have shown Congressional approval dropping before Dems sent the final Iraq bill to the President. Nonetheless, the LA Times' pollsters themselves conclude that Iraq may be to blame for Congress' dip.

Indeed, it seems clear to us that if the Dems are playing Iraq "like a Stradivarius," as Rothenberg says, then the Stradivarius is badly out of tune.

"You may not imprison someone without trial... unless you really want to."

The idea is insane and it's hard to believe it took this long.
