Is there a way to get ahold of my money in my Korean bank account when overseas? If not is there a better way than having to carry alot of money or travellers checks around? I don't have a bank account back home and will be travelling for 2 weeks in Indonesia. Don't really want to have to carry a lot of money or travellers checks but right now that seems to be the only way. I had heard about prepaid VISA credit cards. Travel cards that you can reload with cash and work like a credit card but are really more of a bank card. Is there somewhere in Korea where I would be able to get one of those? |

Aren't ATM Cards the same as bank cards?
"International" Korean bank cards DON'T WORK for foreigners.
That's why OP is asking this question.
I'm sure you knew that already right? |

I'm going to take a bit of everything.
My bank says my card will work overseas but
the woman I talked to is just saying that
because someone told her to. I doubt she knows.
I'm taking cash. Cash always works.
I might take some traveller's checks also
but there might not be a bank handy where
I'm going. I'll also take my american bank
card and my american credit card but I
don't like to use them because of the double
exchange rate hit.
Taking a little of everything will cover
all your bases. You never know. |

They government changed the law so tha foreigners can't take money out of their Korean accounts from overseas. So I need other options that don't include credit cards or bank cards from home either. |

Actually, you are WRONG. I have international ATM cards from both Woori and Hana bank. I went in and asked for one, and then they gave it to me, but thanks for coming out. |

No they didn't. We just had a long thread about this last week or so. |

Nonghyup issued me an international card last year and it did indeed work when I was traveling around SE Asia (Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand). That said, Korean ATMs shut down at 10pm and I had to be vigilant about what the time was back in Korea. I found this out when I discovered myself almost cashless on a Friday evening in Thailand and I couldn't withdraw money until Monday morning. |

Speaking of $100 bills, I know that when i was in Vietnam last summer, they discriminated the bills by looks, usage and folds.
In other words, most ppl who did the exchange prefer really CRISP bills, is that the same case in other SEA countries? |

Exactly when did you get it? Did you get them befor January 1996?? And more importantly, why don't these banks give "working" international bank cards to the rest of us?
We're tired of you bragging about how you have working international banking cards. We simply don't give a crap.
If you have them and know how to get them, help others get them also instead of just bragging. |

Ttompatz has also said the same as me on this thread, but I see you didn't say anything to him. You are the one giving false information, so don't give me attitude. In fact, I have helped others from this website by giving them information. I have helped both Milwaukeedave and Mehamrick both through private messages. As well, I am definitely not bragging about having an internation card because everybody I know here has one. The only time I have ever seen it mentioned that others can't get one is on this website. I got my newest card within the past 10 months and have had it replaced twice in that time with absolutely no problems. So, I suggest you readjust your attitude because you make it very hard to want to help you.
Oh yeah, and apparently you do give a crap. |

I have this strange feeling it may not be what you say but how you say it. I didn't know that it was possible since I did in fact see the newspaper article saying that the law was changing last year. Your answer treats my question like I am an idiot. I would hate to be in a class where you were a teacher, have missed a few days class and ask a question someone already asked.
"DING you are WRONG. Somebody asked that question already. Did you not know that or are you just stupid?"
Man what a way to talk down to someone just for asking a question. Thought that was the point of these forums. |

I wasn't responding you to. I was responding to the person who wrote "DON'T WORK" in capital letters. That's why it isn't your post that is quoted.
If you think I treat my students the same way I treat adults with bad attitudes, well that reflects more up on you than me.
Go back through the thread and look who was the first to give attitude in this thread. |
