Computer glare, peering into a bright screen, dark internet cafe's: they all add up to one thing: eyeproblems. Is using a computer under such conditions ruinous to your eyesight?
If so, what's the diagnosis?
Suddenly I get these pains in my eyes that just zap me, and sap me of seeing well. I've heard that staring into a computer can destroy your eyes too. I've been told it's conjunctivitis. But I don't know. |

Conjunctivitis is common in Korea.
You should be washing your face as often as possible.
The air is not very clean lot's of yellow dust.
If you are in a rural area this is most common bacteria from farm animals.
You will eventually get a pink eye and swelling of the eyelid.
If it's computer eye fatigue, it's usually double vision, headaches and little floaties in your vision.

You'd think we'd be harming our eyes with the sheer unnaturalness of staring at a monitor but I've yet to see a single study that confirms that.
If you google on "computer eye damage" nothing damning comes up -- some practical suggestions for avoiding eyestrain (eye distance from screen, taking occasional breaks, etc) but nothing alarming.
If your eye symptoms are causing you concern, see an opthalmologist about possible underlying conditions. |

It's a common problem I'm trying get to the root of right now without going on a see-a-doctor-goose chase, as it occurs on occasions and happens especially when I'm tired.
A doctor back in the states said it was from doing too much 'near work,' ie., staring at something too closely for too long. I used to be a painter/artist too.
Really don't know, but wondered if writing on the internet all those years in Korea contributed to this malady.
Wish someone knew, because it really hurts badly sometimes. And whenever I see a bright, glaring light, it shocks the heck out of my eyes. |
