So my school has been trying to weasel out of paying pension, trying to say that I am an "independent contractor" and that it will "boost my tax up to 10%" so really..why would I want pension?

Since I just recently received by ARC, though, not sure what the result of that will be. However, in my experience, usually the hagwon's address was on the ARC. My apartment's address is on my ARC this time though. I only have one other foreign coworker - his is the same. Is this an attempt to legitimize not paying for pension?

I have always had my apartment address, in Korean, on my ARC. It was helpful getting a taxi home at the beginning when my pronunciation was bad. I got pension.

My ARC always had my home address, not the hagwon.

Same here--school's address. In fact, they recommended that I have my mail sent there too. I don't have a problem with it since I'm fairly new here and don't know anything about the post office, mailbox, etc...

I just looked at my ARC and it matches neither my my home address
nor my school's address.

If you are an E2 you can't be an independent contractor and he must
pay pension. Keep in mind I only know this from reading Dave's ESL
so it may just be urban legend.

DO NOT LET THEM KEEP YOUR MAIL! DUDE! FIND OUT YOUR ADDRESS AND USE YOUR ADDRESS! If your mailbox isn't locked (most aren't), find out how to get the damn key and lock it.

Ask me how I know.

Cheers, I was wondering about privacy issues. I do have my home address. Apparently packages will be delivered to my landlord if I'm not home. Is that par for the course?

Your boss is a liar and a thief.

File a complaint.

As an E2 holder you CANNOT be a "independant contractor" because your work visa is DIRECTLY tied to your hakwon. If you boss controls when and how you work you are an employee and NOT a contractor.

File a complaint with pension, medical and the tax office
(I'll bet long money that you are getting cheated on all 3 and your boss is benefiting to the tune of about 150k won per month on your money).
