My Korean co-teacher got in trouble from a parent for calling a student naughty. (in English) I guess.
Is that really such a big deal? |

Are you in a hakwon?
Hakwon kids are never naughty. They are always perfect angels in their parents eyes.
If you are in a public school then I am as surprised as all get out.
Normally the teacher would politely ignore a rude parent and then punish the kid again. |

I wish that were true. In the public schools I work in, the teachers are very afraid of upsetting the parents. When I teach Korean English teachers they are often telling me about how they feel they have no power anymore and must always bow to the wishes of parents. |

| maybe to some koreans who are dumb in the ways of english language, "naughty" is synonymous with "sexually promiscuous?" Just a thought.... |

I need to make it clear we do not "co-teach" , in the sense we are in the room at the same time.
I am not sure about that but the mother grilled the teacher privately for over half an hour. The owner/director backed the teacher but had to do his "smooth job" to the parent.
The student is a trouble maker in the class and in fact, disrupts the whole class and makes it difficult to conduct the class.
I do not know the full extent of what happened , but I believe she simply tried to put the kid into his place. I do it all the time. I say " you are naughty" in Korean all the time. Mostly joking. Sometimes I scream at the kids and my face almost explodes at this same hogwan.
As suggested on the thread behind me, I believe Korean mothers have way too much time on their hands. That woman needs to get a job-and a life! |

I can't use the word "Silly" in any of my classes because of what it means in Korean. Not because of what it means in English.
Although I'm also not supposed to wear my hair down either. Hogwons are weird. |

I have curly hair and the parents don't like it. My supervisor is a moron and makes my life horrible by giving me retarded rules. She said something about a parent saying that it makes me look african or something. I think that no parent said it but it's in my supervisors head. |

The parent should have been given an ultimatum to take her kid elsewhere if she can't treat the teacher with respect. It sounds like the director has no backbone.
