Actually, the name and holiday seems to have come from Japan. It was renamed Children's Day in Korea in 1975.

On the Confusionist (sic) scale, boys rank higher than girls. This hardly suprises me. Glad to see Korea is more enlightened now.

Hummmm....
That's true. 소년(少年) means either a boy or a youth while 소녀(少女) only means a girl. Then, I guess the wiki info's suggesting that 어린이날's former name was 소년(少年)의 날. I never heard about that.

This coincides with the Korean sources I have come across. It was originally May 1st. In Japan, they have Boy's Day (May 5th) and Girl's Day (March 3rd) separately.
