Hey

Im coming to Korea in August and was wondering if it is a good idea to bring my lap top? is it easy enough to get connection sorted into my apartment? Am i wasting good luggage space?

Cheers

Put it in a pack as carry on luggage. You will be glad that you brought it.

Yes, bring it. But if you choose not to, they do sell them in Korea.

Bring your laptop. It will save you having to buy a PC when you get here.

Internet connections are quick and easy after you get your ARC. Service is usually within 24 hours.

Many times your school can get it hooked up for you even before you get your ARC by putting it in their name - or it may be installed already from the previous teacher so you simply need to plug in.

I think ALL connections now are broadband or wireless. I don't think there are any more dial up providers in the country.

A point to highlight from the laptop sticky:

- bring all your install CDs (your copy of windows, your laptop's driver cd, your apps)

Odds are in your year here something is going to fork up your system and you might need to reinstall. You'll be SOL without those CDs.

I brought copies and left the originals. Always have a backup.

Korea has amongst the widest availability of broadband in the world ... so it will not be a problem to get Internet connected .... probably easier than at home ... Wifi is widely available and the cable network is extensive ... You will not regret bringing your laptop with you ... You would regret it if you didn't.. In some ways it ends up being a lifeline ...
