I'm an idiot when it comes to computers.

I have a KT MEgapass internet connection. It shows on the internet icon 10.0Mps.

What is an easy step by step way to maximize the speed i get. I do a lot of DLing and the like. It just seems that every thing loads ups and downloads so slowly.

Help please.

It just seems that its running really slow.

Cheers

What do you download? Torrents or direct downloads?

I have a 10mb line and I get 1 MB per second. Megabytes (MB) and Megabits (Mb) are not the same.

8 mbps (megabits per second) = 1 MB/sec (megabytes per second)

Your speeds are fine. Get a 100 mb line if you want very fast.

uTorrent is great for torrents, Flashget is good for direct downloads.

There are programs which claim to optimize speed but I'm not sure how much good they really do.

That is slow for Korea.

I've heard KT have a good English-speaking helpline. Maybe call them.

But first, try running this speedtest....
http://speed.nia.or.kr/english/

It's much more accurate than the one you used above.

The problem most likely lies with the Yokohama server you're connecting to. Try a server from China or LA.

My secret test: Go to Adobe's website and download a trial of Adobe acrobat PRO. The speed should be smoking...if it isn't there is a problem with your connection. However, you have to do a short sign-up to get the download.

Last time I tried I got 4.5 MBYTES/s (thats 36 Mb/s)

Use the site eamo suggested. It's based in Korea, and it never fails to give accurate results. If you are leery of putting in your e-mail address when prompted, don't. Make up a dummy e-mail address instead, there is no further validation required to log on.
