The NBA Finals are in the book which kicks off my most hated, and yet hopeful, time of the year: the time between the end of the NBA season and the beginning of the college and NFL football seasons. July and August are very drab months for the American sports fan. Usually, the basketball and football enthusiast is a very casual baseball fan, so watching 9 innings of regular season MLB can be very taxing if you are not a baseball guy. So for the next two months the sports world is very boring. Maybe some good MMA cards will appear and provide some temporary relief, but until the kickoff of football season, this time of the year is rough!

However, this is also a time of hope. Maybe my beloved Fresno State Bulldogs will make a run at the BCS and capture the nations heart like our fellow WAC brother Boise State did last year. If not a BCS bid, how about a Holiday Bowl bid so when I return to San Diego in December I will be able to watch the game at Jack Murphy Stadium. Maybe my beloved Miami Dolphins will get their QB issues sorted out and get pass the horrible pick of Tedd Ginn Jr. and have a shot at the playoffs. Maybe my home town team, the San Diego Chargers will finally get to the big show and with my ESL savings I can go watch the Super Bowl in person. So much hope and excitement courses through my red, white, and blue veins just thinking about our beloved sport, football, and the heart break and joy that will kickoff on September 1st.

San Diego do have maybe the best young QB in the league(depends on how u classify Palmer..is he still a young QB?) in Rivers and the best young guy on D in Merriman. They should be competitive for a long time.

I used to feel like this until I came to Korea and discovered....RUGBY!!!!! Tri-Nations. Check it out.

Also, when the HELL is L.A. going to get a football team? Unacceptable.

Yes...I think the only thing I really, truly miss not living in my homeland is football. Everything else I can do without, but my heart aches every autumn Saturday and Sunday here in Korea.

Go Gamecocks!

in contrast to most people on earth, i actually quite like american football.

it was pretty popular during the 80's in the uk as one of our tv channels covered the nfl; i even roped my friends in and bought a 'wilson qb' ball to play some knockabout games with. my team were the philly eagles, cos i liked randall cunningham (i was 10, i thought he had a cool name!) and the big lineman (?) whose name escapes me but who was huge. plus in later years my high school exams (or what we do in the uk) were nearly sabotaged by playing john madden football on the megadrive...

so i wouldn't be dissing american football.

but, and its a big ol' butt, you have to agree that when you say 'Football', most of the world will think two goals, one ball, kicking it.

John Madden on the mega drive was amazing. the three screens and all u had to do was press a b or c. NHL hockey was pretty good too..

BTW sensible soccer was the best game for the mega drive, wish I could go back and play it again.
