I would like to know what Korean people have to say about the issues we discuss but it seems like there are either very few Koreans willing to post their opinions here.

Every now and then a copy of a Dave's thread will appear translated in Korean on a Korean site and I've seen quoted threads in other Korea related sites. Hokwon owners and employees have used Dave's to advertise so it's pretty easy to come to the conclusion that they may also read the threads here too.

So where is the Korean perspective?

FP, if you think this board is bad now, multiply it by about 8 million if we add Koreans. The arguments between apologists and haters gets pretty heated... add into the mix a bunch of people who are getting trashed on half the threads and you have a recipe for every thread to be 8-page pissing matches.

To reiterate: NO GOOD can come of a large/larger Korean presence on this board.... none.

Being Korean myself, I guess I should leave then. I didn't realize when I signed up how much anti-Korean sentiment there was lingering on these forums. Furthermore, I suppose it's my fault that I couldn't identify the blatant irony of this board at that time.

I'm not Korean, and I think it's a totally fucked up stance as well (no Korean prescence)...

Being American, I can understand why the Koreans are a bit timid to respond here. Smile

You two need to take a class or two in English Reading Comprehension. At no point did I express any "anti-Korean sentiment." I said that taking a message board where half the threads are bashing on Korea, and then adding in lots of Korean people, would make it even more volatile and argumentative. Change "Korean" with any other group (ethnic, cultural, whatever) and I would say the same thing.

I kept this post very tame, against my better judgement. Bash me for my views all you want, but make damn sure you read what I said and actually understand before you turn around and start calling me a fucking racist.

Well, Fresh Prince, you've got your perspective right here. I personally don't believe this board to be very anti-Korean. Luminaire, because he/she is korean, perhaps (perhaps not), thinks it is.

Perspectives.

He has a point. He is not saying racist things, or bashing Koreans. He is just stating the obvious.......nothing more, nothing less. Quite honestly, I agree with him. How many times has it been said that you cannot communicate logically with a your average Korean? How many times could we bring up valuable points about our gripes, and have them NOT RESPOND to them? Yes, the apologists would definately come out of the wood work, and the haters would counterstrike. Then, the Koreans that could communicate would not be hear over the other noise.

It would be possible for people to let their students know about this board, and maybe help them with the registration process if needed. Sure, most students wouldn't care, but there are a few zealous ones out there.

Wow!!! Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

Scotticus I am extremely disappointed in you. Poor showing, man, poor showing!

What I mean is that you called someone out on reading ability when you yourself displayed serious lack of comprehension. Not good!!

Do we really wanna do this, TC? If you read LuminairE's post, he's responding DIRECTLY to what I had said. He makes a comment that I told Koreans to leave the board, and that the board is filled with anti-Korean sentiment.

Not sure if you're aware of this, but racism is defined as:

1 : a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race
2 : racial prejudice or discrimination

Thus, people saying my stance is "fucked" and that I'm telling an entire racial group to leave the board is pretty clearly accusing me of being a racist. Furthermore, the fact that they took my message as "Korea and Koreans are idiots, so they shouldn't be on this board," is an even further affirmation that they took my post to be racist. Just so you're aware, much of the meaning in language is implied. Did they specifically use the word racist? Nope. However, they accused me a bunch of things that, through pretty simple deductive reasoning would paint me as a racist.

Now, the attacks I just got about my previous post is a shining example of why a large Korean presence on this board would be a bad thing. I made a very clear post that was not even remotely racist and yet a bunch of native english speakers jumped down my throat for being a scumbag. Now, what do you think will happen if even more non-native speakers are trolling these boards? You think that, just maybe, even MORE misunderstandings will happen? You think the stories about "racist" waygook teachers will suddenly go up among the Korean netizens? You think, perhaps, that it would do vastly more harm then it would ever do good?
