|
|
Let's keep this North America only.
Let's face it, not all cities are created equal. Some are made for winning championships is sport. New York, Chicago, Los Angeles come to mind. Then there are cities that might occassionally get lucky and its ok.
BUT there are cities so pathetic that if a team from that city ever won a championship it would be an insult to the sport. These are cities that I like to call "the Born Losers". These places have an air of loserosity. if you drive through them, its like a stench that fills your lungs. Its not jus6 sports, its everything to do with life there. People are resigned to being losers in these places and it is reflected in their sports teams.
Let's make a list of such cities.
I will begin
1. Buffalo. The greatest thing about living within reach of Buffalo's radio stations was the whining, crying, bellyaching each time their loser Bills got beat in the Superbowl. This is a city that is the symbol of the loser town. The mystery is how this place even has professional sports. Its a town, I wouldnt even call it a city. If you visit the place, its just depressing. This is America caught in a 1970s time warp. Ugly architecture, ugly people. Think Walmart, strip malls and polyester, and nothing but overglorified community colleges for education...and youve got yourself the town of Buffalo.
2. Cleveland. Pretty much the same as Buffalo. Just a bit larger. Mavs...suck. Browns..suck. Cleveland...sucks. |

Used to travel to Buffalo a few times a year for lacrosse tournaments. We were afraid to step of the school grounds it was so horrible. A few of us got really hungry between games and went to the local 7-11. What a fu#king hell hole! And this was the neighbourhood surrounding a pretty well to do private highschool. We had to walk under an overpass to reach the store. I suddenly remember feeling the sidewalk go soft on me. I look down...WTF!? I'm standing in about 2 inches of pigeon sh#t! Not just a pile of it but the entire sidewalk was covered in it. Truly a horrible, horrible city.
Oh I almost forgot. No American city deserves the Stanley Cup, with the exception of maybe Boston.

Any city in Indiana. The whole state is nothing but corn and people who can't compensate for daylight savings time.
Sorry if you're from Indiana. It's nothing personal, I just don't care for the state. |

1. well thats Buffalo. The place is a dump. Loserosity is so pervasive there that it seeps into the buildings, roads, infrastructure. Its probably the only place in america where a human feeling, something intangible like LOSEROSITY (I coined a new word!) has actually taken on a physicality through sheer concentration of it. As I said, you can smell and taste it there. A horroble place. Its a place that God actually forgot about. or may be too ashamed to pay any attention to.
2. Id add Chicago and Detroit to the list because of their tradition and also Pittsburgh. |

Yep, Indiana is a dump. Its a place you drive through without stopping. You get in your car, and once you cross the border and get into Indiana you make a run for the next state...windows closed, doors locked, foot far away from the brake..... That goes triple for when you are around Gary. |

dude, don't you hate sports?
Why the post?
As for American cities and the Cup. Any cities aside from Nashville, Carolina, Atlanta, and Anaheim are okay to win. ( i've been sad the last 2 years)
Toronto Raptors must never win the NBA championship. |

I vote for the whole state of Minnesota. I mean...the place isn't cool enough to name their teams after an actual city!
The Minnesota Twins
The Minnesota Timberwolves
The Minnesota Vikings
oh...and the Minnesota Wild
'nough said.
I just hate their teams. I've never been to the land of a 1,000 lakes and 10,000 mosquitos |

I never understood how they could have hockey in cities where ice doesn't form naturally. |

I will ammend my statement slightly. It's ok for Detroit or any of the New York teams to win the cup but only if the team is more than 50% Canadian hehe.
Yeah, 15 years and counting, that's a really hard to wrap my head around. It's almost like something in my genetic make up makes it impossible to actually comprehend |
