Hi Esl Cafe members!

This is my first post and I signed up to get more info on the school that I am currently negotiating with. I have read alot about W language academy and it seems to have a shady past and I wanted to get the current info on whether things have changed. The branch I will working at is in Seocho, which I understand is the head office location. Any info about pension contributions, pay irregularities, apartement quality ect ect. would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I've worked at one for a year and so far it's been pretty good. I've agreed to work there for another two months. My boss is not the brightest person, but he does leave us alone. He never harasses or threatens the foreign teachers, and he's always paid everyone on time. One one or two occasions, he's even paid some people early if they needed the money. One exception was when my contract ended. He didn't pay me my bonus on the day we had agreed. It was a couple of days late. He claimed it was a problem with the bank, and given my past experience with him, I'm inclined to believe him.

The cons are mostly minor. The rooms are small and can be cramped at times. Especially since they have a habit of throwing as many kids as possible in a class. The school has a set curriculum, and the pace I have to teach at varies greatly from class to class. I'd have to teach 10 pages in some classes every day, while other classes I'd sometimes go in and have just a picture to teach. The thing I hate the most about the actual work there is grading essays. Every Friday, I have to grade essays and diaries for 90 minutes. Still, those 90 minutes are included in my contract hours, and if I don't have enough time to finish what they give me, I don't have to worry about it.

By far, the worst thing about the school for me was vacation. We do not get any week long vacations. Instead the vacation days are scattered throughout the year, usually coming in between terms. I haven't been counting, so I'm not even sure if I've received all the vacation that is on my contract.

My apartment was alright. It's clean and has everything I need. However, it's really small. It didn't have a TV, which is in my contract, but I never asked the director for one anyway. I believe one of my old coworkers did ask, and received one. I don't watch TV, so I never bothered.
