I really need to buy a digital camera. I do want a decent camera without spending an arm and a leg. Can a decent camera be had for less than 300,000 won say 230,000 or less? How many pixels can I get? What brand to look for? Any ideas would be helpful, because I want to purchase something soon. |

There is lots of stuff in the point and shoot category in that price range.
At the low end of your price range, 3.3 - 4 megapixel. Between 5 and 6 megapixel for 300k ish.
You can get into a nice starter package DSLR for about 420k (Nikon D40 kit).

Stay away from the pentax M30, i have one and unless the light is perfect they take sh1tty photos, so much so that i normally still use my old 3mp cannon.
Should not be a problem finding a good one for less than 300,000. My advice go in one weekend, look at several different cameras and record the prices. Go home and read reviews then the next weekend go buy the one that you want.
a great review site http://www.steves-digicams.com/best_cameras.html
just remember that the american name for certain models is different then the asian-pacific name.
I like this one http://www.steves-digicams.com/2006_reviews/sd700.html
i wish i had spent the extra 60,000 won |

I saw this one camera they had called the canon IUXS500. I asked several dealers their prices. The Canon was the one they were pushing. I did like it more than the Nikon I saw. It has a 3 inch screen, 7.1 megapixels, seems easy to use. It costs about 310,000 including the warranty. Anyone know anything about this. I tried to look for a review. |

Google suggests it might be the IXUS 500. |

You are right.. It seems to be a decent camera...
However, I read on some reviews that some of these cameras malfunction. I would be very pissed off if that happened with me. Someone recommended a Sony P-150. Another friend recommended Sony. |

I have read so many reviews.... I find it hard to make a choice based on them. I was attracted somewhat to the Olympus 720SW since it is very durable and water proof and seems easy to use. It doesn't seem to take the best pictures among the top cameras from what the reviews say, but it seems to do the job. I don't want something fragile...Anyone familir with this Olympus? |

Check this baby out!
Oh boy, lookie lookie. Panasonic just announced their new Lumix FX top-ender, the DMC-FX100. Packing a 1/1.72-inch, 12.2 megapixel CCD, this compact shooter manages to squeeze in a 28mm wide-angle Leica DC lens with 3.6x optical zoom. The cam features VE III processing along with Panny's Mega Optical Image Stabilizer and Intelligent ISO control (up to a 6400 sensitivity) to reduce blurring. Shutter release is measured at 0.009 seconds while bursting 8 shots per second at full resolution. It even records WVGA (848 x 480) video at 30fps or 1280 x 720 at 15fps direct to SDHC/SD cards. Nice, should be a winner by the time the reviews roll around.
I got the Panasonic Lumix DMC FX 07, nice and compact. 28mm for wide shots, 4x zoom, shot stabilizer, 7.2 mp's, Leica lens, 2gig sd card...loving it! Real nice deal on it as well. Takes great photos! |

I was initially leaning towards a canon in the IXUS category, but the 950 got several bad reviews including it malfunctioning and coming with an error message. I also saw that the Nikon coolpix is decent, overall, but it seems the Sony cybershot is better, but the Sony is way overpriced in Korea. I could get it in the U.S. for at least 100 off the price. I've been reading tons of reviews. Now, that Panasonic looks good, but I don't want to spend 400,000 won. The most I could spend is 340 and this pushing it. I am not sure if I am any closer to choosing after reading so many reviews and the confusing way Korea prices things compared to North America. Somethings that are much cheaper on U.S. sites are not in Korea. I have to make a decision soon... I didn't think it would be hard to make such a decision:) lol |

I second being pleased with my Canon Ixus 900ti. It is a very nice compact p&s with plenty of features.
I have a very good condition Sony DSC P10 that I am selling on this board. It's not the newest technology, but it is still a highly regarded camera. Just FYI. |

Well, I finally bought a camera. I bought an Olympus. It has a 2.5 inch screen, very good resolution, and 8.0 pixels with image stabilization, ISO 3200, 3X Zoom, a rechargeable battery, and I got it for 325. The tag price was 349, and I got him down to 325. It was the best I could do. I am sure it's cheaper back home, but I like the sucker. |
