I seriously think this war has done an incredible amount of damage to the U.S. Why hasn't the administration sent in enough to, at the very least, secure the city and at the very least give the impression of success. The failure to combat the insurgency aside I think this fiasco has set a terrible precedent.
1.) It has highlighted the limits of american power in the region. Do you really think Iran is worried about America when it can't even deal with a rag tag insurgency.
2.) I find it incredibly ironic that while the stated aim was to deal a blow to terrorism, America has created what is in essence the largest terror training ground in the middle east.
I'm not one for conspiracies but I really cannot come to any other conclusion other than that the administration doesn't really want to win it. If this really is a war for the future of "our very way of life" Bush and this entire administration should have been canned years ago. This isn't an anit-bush rant. If George Washington himself were in charge of things right now I would be asking for his resignation. |

Can someone explain to me why the most powerful army in history/a few of it's allies is unable to bring one backasswards city under control? Seriously.
Forgive the bluntness, I do really wish to know what the hell is going on. Is it political interference? Ineptness? Lack of resolve? An impossible task? The skill/numbers of insurgents? |
For the benefit of the ELFish amongst us I repost the OP.
And call attention the operative statement:
Can someone explain to me why the most powerful army in history/a few of it's allies is unable to bring one backasswards city under control? Seriously.
Now if you wish to expand the question get your own thread!!!
The question concerns Baghdad! |
Boy, if you can't handle a truthful answer, don't get in the conversation. If th question is flawed, the conversation is pointless unless it acts to correct the original flaw. Why can't they secure Baghdad? Already answered. Quit being a piker waiting for the answer that makes your panties wet. |

ddorky conspiracy theories aside, the real problem is that they never sent a large enough army to win the peace. They simply do not have enough troops.
If you drop 2-300,000 troops in the city you could secure it.
Not only was this an illegal, wrong and unjust war, it was also carried out with the Bush administrations trademark competency. Rumsfeld thought a few divisions could shock and awe them into democracy. |
That pretty much sums up my thoughts about it.
Maybe if we actually had some type of post-war plan and had more troops on the ground, iraq might not be such a mess.
We have reaped what we have sown. fun times. |

It is not illegal .
Saddam never gave up his war.
Nor is it unjust.
Saddam Hussein killed 300,000 Iraqis alone and would have killed many more and not only in Iraq were he not contained. |
