My mate left me his Samsung Anycall M Linique pre-paid cell phone (silver case).

It's a prepaid phone - he said I have to pay 10,000 won per month to keep the Korean number. But I'm not going to pay that - or use the phone in Korea.

Does anyone know:

(a) if I can take this cell phone to Thailand and get it unlocked for use in Thailand?

(b) Or can I just buy a Thai sim card and use it there?

Any advice appreciated.

I believe phones in the US are the only ones that are LOCKED to specific carriers.

As for Korea phone, its not a matter of "unlocking" it. There are a number if issues:

1. Technology, are the networks (CDMA, TDMA, GSM, Etc...) compatible.
2. Software, Can the phone's software be updated to be used in a different country?
3. Hardware, maybe the phone is hard wired to only work in Korea.
4. Phone company, Will the cell phone companies in Thailand even let you use a Korean cell phone on their network?

It will not work in Thailand and it cannot be unlocked. It is CDMA so it has no sim to change. Different technology.

Use it here, sell it or give it away.

Not every phone in Korea is CDMA or laking a sim card. My latest phone I picked up from LG uses a SIM card, though a token attempt is made at trying to sim-lock it to SK.

THIS phone cannot be unlocked, used outside Korea or have the SIM card changed.
