I'd love more information on this. Any "Chinese shops" in the Gangnam area? I'd load up on Tsingtao if I could find it at that price.

I only know of "Chinatown" in Incheon. Prices there are all 2,000 won for a big bottle. Even if you buy a case of 12, no discount! Where can you get the big bottles of Tsingtao for 1500?

Dude, I live by Guro Stn on line 1 in Seoul. Right around the corner from my place there is a mini-Chinatwon, with I think 5 or 6 stores that sell Chinese beers. Big bottles of Snow, TsingTao, etc, but for 1700 not 1500.

Also a lot of Chinese restaurants selling goat dishes, Chinese noraebangs, Chinese anmas - ask a Korean where a lot of Chinese people live (which areas) and guaranteed you'll find a lot of stores selling Chinese booze and food.

I'd watch out for stuff in that area, who knows what went into those beers. Ever hear of people who took Chinese herbal medicine from unreliable sources, and got permanently handicapped as a result?

Holy $hit! I just realized that it is only 4pm and I have had a 12'er of crappy Korean Cafri's. I think I need some more.

Yeah, a bit difficult to explain where exactly but all I can say is that it is across the road from Aekyung Department Store. There's not much in the way of landmarks to describe where the main strip is, but you should see a lot of stores with Chinese characters on their signs. Good luck, and cheers!

Yea, I know the area a little. Used to go to the CGV at Aekyung before CGV Mok-dong opened. I can recognize the Chinese character for alcohol.

Because Alley Kat is a non-pasteurized microbrew, any dispensing system must have really clean lines...I drink it at 3 Alley Pub and Phillies usually...no aftertaste probs there, due to the attention paid to keeping the pipes clean; perhaps try a pint or ten there to compare?

That place is a crap hole. To those who knock Itaewon in Seoul try Texas street in Busan (and it really should be Russia street now the military are out of that area).

In Seoul, head to Platinum or Castle Praha in Gangnam for great beer. Castle Praha is also in Hongdae. The brews at La Bassus in Myeongdong are good, too. Wolfhound in Itaewon rocks for import draft beer.

Many bars have imports, but I only know of a few places with Samuel Adams. Go to Hansung University station on line 4. Look for "Western Bar" next to the McDonalds's. They have it, and other imports.

Anyone else know where to get Samuel Adams?

Platinum does not have good beer. I'd take a bath in s-hite before I go there again.

You do realize that Tsingtao is a an old German brewery that the Chinese inherited right? In addition, you do realize that there are international standards set for exported beers....

Also, maybe I'm being crass here, but do you really think that the selection of non-Korean beers isn't such a good standard for moving to a foreign country. Is it really that important?

I guess that depends on what your priorities are and what is your situation. But, still, I think the discussions about good beers are generally fairly light-hearted. That said...it would make things better if, after a hard day at work, I could drink some real beer with some friends as opposed to the awful draught beer that generally exists here.

I'm sure authentic Tsingtao is fine, but China is king of the knockoffs, and well, I'm sure there are unauthorized versions of the beer going around.

I'd have to disagree with you on that. There are better microbrews around, but Platinum is a very good all-round deal.

Seconded. I thought the beer at Platinum was top-notch. For korea.
