They talk about fiscal responsibility, then drive the country straight into the ground. America is an economic joke after these last 6 or 7 years. The US dollar is so bad that a Canadian dollar is almost worth as much as an American... I remember, back in the good old days, when the US dollar was worth 1.65 in Canada... *sigh* I miss Clinton...
On the bright side, a crappy US dollar means my Korean won goes MUCH farther. Let's hope the Pubs win again in '08! Those student loans ain't paying themselves! |
Do you actually believe this stuff you're saying? This is the same tripe that people were saying about Reagan in the 1980s. You actually sound like a disgruntled old man, complaining about the "govment." Your complaints are not based in fact, but simply propaganda. Even a cursory analysis of the economic indicators reveals that the country is economically much healthier today than it was 6 or 7 years ago. The unemployment rate in 2001 was 4.8 while in 2006 it is 4.5. The Dow Jones is at records levels, approaching 14,000, while in 2000, the Dow barely reached 11,000.
Regarding the weak dollar policy, comparing the dollar value to the Canadian dollar is a useless exercise. The weak dollar policy commands certain benefits from the marketplace. The Consumer Price Index has remained relatively constant, which judges the effectiveness of the dollar on American consumers. A weak dollar has not hurt the average American in purchasing power parity. The weak dollar has provided some significant advantages to the US. In exporting, US firms are far more competitive under a weak dollar. It also help create fair trade, by helping to counteract the effects of a Chinese currency that is artificially undervalued by 40%.
A weak dollar policy has led to more foriegn investment in the US, improved exports and international competitiveness.
If you'd like to complain about Bush, be my guest, but economically, Bush has been good for the US, starting specifically with the tax cuts. Feel free to ignore hard data and just lash out based on emotion. That's a typical response from the left.. |
