I am considering legal action against my employer because it's about to fire me without cause or due process. For those who have used lawyers out there, how much did you have to pay for labor disputes?
One firm quoted me a retainer fee of 5.5 million won and then another 5.5 million won if we win the case. |

Just go to the labor board. It's free. |

Call the labor office - 1350 from any land phone.
You are aware that if you have worked with that employer for less than 6 months they can terminate without notice regardless of your contract. If you have been there for more than 6 months you get 30 days notice or 30 days pay. If you have been there more than one year you can add your severance to the notice/pay.
You're not in the litigeous states of America anymore. There is nothing for you to win in a lawsuit and it will cost you 11 million won (OR MORE) to find that out.
Take your money, get your LOR and get a good job. |

why pay a lawyer?
1) go to labor. they're free, or
2) file the lawsuit yourself (you do NOT need a lawyer), cost is chicken feed |

Okay, so I've decided to go to the labor board first and see what happens. But I'm curious, will the board seek a financial settlement or what? I'm not sure I'd be welcome back by the management at the company if I file that complaint, though my staff and coworkers are behind me. |
