1. Except that didn't happen and that's not what they are celebrating.

Pesach or Passover is a spring holiday commemorating the Exodus, the liberation of the Hebrews from slavery in Egypt in the time of Moses (circa 13th century BCE). Many of its observances are instituted in chapters 12 to 15 of the book of Exodus.
Passover's name comes from the last of the Ten Plagues visited on the Egyptians by Yahweh before the Exodus. All firstborn male children were killed, but those Hebrew households that had slaughtered a lamb and marked their doorposts with its blood were "passed over." It is also an agricultural holiday commemorating the beginning of the harvest season, but this aspect of Passover is not emphasized.

(1) So, it might be the exodus in its entirety that is being commemorated.
However, the sparing of the Jewish children from the homicidal wrath of the Jewish god would seem to be a pretty front-and-center aspect of the celebration.

| So taking what a handful of fringe practioners do is representative of the whole? Because that's the argument you are trying to make here. |
(2) No.( But how many Muslims in the world are cutting babies' heads at Ashura? |
(1) Correct.
As for the sparing of the Jewish children I should think that having one's children spared death would be a cause for celebration (even a "pretty front-and-center aspect" of said celebration).
2. Which was not even my point. I was simply pointing out that to take a issue which is outside the Jewish mainstream( and has been for many years) and refer to it as a Jewish ritual is to say the least misleading. To write that it had its origins in Jewish ritual would have been more accurate |

Well, I guess. But then you have to factor in that their chidren were spared while the god that they worship was murdering children all over the place.
Let's say your dad goes on a shooting spree in your neighbourhood, but decides to spare his own family. Would you hold a party every year to commemorate your father's compassion? Personally, I would move to another city, change my last name, and try to forget that I had any connection to the man whatsoever.
I should say here that I don't really object to Passover celebrations, and have in fact participated in one, on a rather informal basis. My point is merely that it is rooted in the same type of violence and xenophobia as equivalent Muslims ceremonies might be. |

None of these images have any relevance.
Besides you thinking western society going to collapse like a deck of cards the second someone with a turban, or maybe even a burrito in hand, shows up.
Some time before our births, shrill xenophobes like yourself were making the same pronouncements of cultural doom over the Irish, Germans and Japanese. Now people will laugh at you if you said they were going to destroy us all.
I have faith in the strength of our culture. And I don't think you and the rest of the crackpots are worried losing it as much as you're overjoyed at having a target for your petty bigotries.
The simple fact is our culture has been going strong, absorbing and adapting for a very long time now. And it's going to keep on doing that while you and your ilk stand there on the street corner yelling about our damnation. And then long after you're all dead. |
He mixed the images of Sunnis and Shiites. Sunnis do not have their children let blood to mourn the loss of Ali and Hassan and Hussein...
That is what the Shiites do. Of course, the U.S. is going to back its allies. That's the idea... |

Christians living in Gaza City on Monday appealed to the international community to protect them against increased attacks by Muslim extremists. Many Christians said they were prepared to leave the Gaza Strip as soon as the border crossings are reopened.
The appeal came following a series of attacks on a Christian school and church in Gaza City over the past few days.
Father Manuel Musalam, leader of the small Latin community in the Gaza Strip, said masked gunmen torched and looted the Rosary Sisters School and the Latin Church.
"The masked gunmen used rocket-propelled grenades to storm the main entrances of the school and church," he said. "Then they destroyed almost everything inside, including the Cross, the Holy Book, computers and other equipment."
Musalam expressed outrage over the burning of copies of the Bible, noting that the gunmen destroyed all the Crosses inside the church and school. "Those who did these awful things have no respect for Christian-Muslim relations," he said. |

hamas's Christianophobia is going unchallenged. Ah well. Such is life. They were democratically elected and all. |

| But those Western governments gave those weapons to Fatah, not Hamas. They probably knew there was a distinct possibility that Hamas would seize those weapons, but would it be a better choice not to arm Fatah and give them no chance against Hamas? What should these Western governments have done instead? Doesn't seem like there were any good choices. |
