So...what sort of pay increase should I expect? I signed the 2006 contact w/ them last, but now, the 2007 contract is a 100,000 more for the base salary. So, in reality I'll be getting that increase and I expect to get at least 100,000 more for a second contract. We haven't talked yet about salary but I'm a Little worried they might say that I got my 100,000 (second contract raise) w/ the increased base salary. So, I want 100,000 above the new "increased" base salary. Any ideas? That sounds right, correct? Actually...I might ask for 200,000 above new base salary...but, you know public schools.
Anyway, It's a great school and I get along w/ all my fellow teachers...the city is a little rural but, I really don't mind that so much as it has a good gym nearby and is close to Yongin city. |

I would base everything off of the new base salary in the 2007 contract. If you're at 2.1 then you should ask them for 2.2 or 2.3. If you're at a level one and qualify for 2.3 then I'd ask for 2.4 since that would include the 100k raise. I don't know how much public schools negotiate though. If I decide to re-sign with my school for next year I'll be asking for a 200,000 raise (100k standard for re-signing and 100k based on performance).
If they don't offer what you want, try finding another school. Why not try for a university? |

What does your current salary say about increases for renewing contracts ... It could also depend upon whether your teaching level 1,2,3 has changed in the course of the year, either from further study or by experience being enough to put you into a different category ... Without either of those I don't really like your chances of getting an increase of anything more than the increased base salary ... let alone as much as you are talking about ... and I say that especially because it is a public school ... It may depend upon whether they think that you are worth paying that much more for ... but I don't really like your chances of that ... in a climate where I can see public school contracts becoming more similar even when they are not officially part of the schemes.
You can try but I would be suprised if you got what you are thinking of ... and I would suggest that before you ask you think about what you will do if they turn you down ... In some cases a good school where you are happy is worth more than more money ...
You could also possibly get more money by negogiating for more classes or overtime ... if more money is more important to you .

| The contract states 100,000 raise depending on performance...that's not a issue. I'm level 2 even though I have 15 years experience, I just don't ant them giving me an old contract w/ a new date on it as the 2007 has more vacation advantages over the old contract for rural teachers and I want the new "increased" base salary + a raise....anyway, my school has always been pretty generous w/ cash and vacation....I just don't want them telling me the increased base salary is my raise...ya feeling me? |

Yes, I do get what you are saying ... Perhaps the best thing for you to do is to wait and see what they say before you worry about what they might say ... and then play it by ear ... when you do know what you are facing ... Don't stress about it unless you need to ...

| The increased base should not be your raise. You should ask for a 200k raise on top of the new base. If they want to keep you, they'll give it to you. Plus a 3 week vacation in sunny Issan. |

| I get 2.2 mil, 14 hours of teaching a week, great kids, no stress, nice Korean staff, no problems, taken out for meals and 9 WEEKS PAID VACATION.......bollox to asking for an extra 100,00w, you automatically get the 100,00w increase anyway. |
