I went to Mokdong last week to get a multiple entry visa, and they told me that UK citizens don't need one. Can anyone confirm that this is true? I can't help thinking something could've been lost in translation, because I can't see why UK citizens wouldnt need one when everyone else does...

UK citizens get a re-entry permit for free. Just pop into the immigration office at the airport when you want to fly out and get a stamp/sticker.

I heard that you get a multiple entry visa automatically when you get your E2. Not the case for Canadians, apparently.

YES., If you leave without a re-entry permit they will cancel your visa.

just a reminder that Americams do automatically get a multi re entry on their first year of any contract. if they stay longer than one year with the same company, they MUST get a second re-entry, even if you stay on an extra month, a trip out somewhere, you will need a new re entry.

Hmm. . . there's a lot of information here which seems to contradict my experiences!

My first year in Korea, I was issued a SINGLE-entry visa (as an American). Before I left the country on a weekend trip to Japan I had to go to the immigration office and pay to have my single-entry changed to a multiple-entry visa.

When I applied for my second visa, I requested (and was given) a multiple-entry visa immediately.

I would assume that was because when you entered the country you were on a single-entry, 30 day tourist visa, and when you went to immigration/Japan you were issued your multiple-entry E2?

No, I applied for and was issued an E2 visa well before I came to Korea. I used the Korean consulate in Atlanta, GA for my American passport. Yes, it was a single-entry visa. Yes, I had to go to immigration to get multiple-entry clearance.

Sadly, that was not nearly the end of my problems with that visa.

I've got an E7 visa, and the last time I renewed it I forgot to apply for a re-entry visa. So when I went to the airport to go home for Christmas, the guy who checks your passport and ARC sent me to a little office on the side where I had to pay 30 bucks for a re-entry stamp that lasted until a few days after I was scheduled to get back. It was pretty hassle free considering that it could've been so much worse.
