I remember 4 years ago, when I first discovered Costco in Korea, being so fricking keen on the place. I was like a kid in a candy shop. Such a great selection, so much foreign food. That was in Seoul

These days, however, I keep walking out of the Daegu Costco shaking my head. No more taco mixes, no more maple syrup (at least not the sugary crap that I like), choices of cheese not what they used to be, no mac and cheese, prices going up... I find all I'm leaving with is bagels, meet, and cheese. AND, their hot dogs taste like complete crap!

Came out of Costco recently thinking more or less the same. There are a few real bargains. The rest is not that cheap at all

When Costco first opened up in Korea, it was great. There were very few crowds and a much better ratio of Western to Korean products than you see now.

Then a few years ago it all changed. My suspicion is that the Korean media discovered it, reported on it, and the floodgates opened.

If their business plan was to cater specifically to foreigners and Koreans who enjoy foreign products, they must have been hemorrhaging red ink. They are probably changing inventory to become more profitable, hence the larger crowds.

Do the Costcos in Korea sell pizza at the entrances? And if yes, is it Korean-style pizza?

Agreed. I am wondering if they buy the real estate the building is on. Thinking about it for my IRA portfolio.

They now have motion sensors on their door so the customers walk in the right direction in and out now. They responded to my online complain which I thought was cool. Getting plowed over by a mob going in the wrong direction was not.

Pizzas are in the basement of mine, and thankfully they aren't Korean-style.

Mine too. Not Korean, but they didn't taste so great.

I'm pretty positive what b**** is but I'm not sure how you'd suck one without her slapping you.

No no no. If I was flexible enough to do that, my girl would get mad because "that's her job."

I go to the one in Yangjae, and will have to agree that within the last few months they have been stocking less and less of the western things that I actually was going there to buy. It's a bit frustrating to say the least.

Yea, what's up with that? Nothing caters to foreigners needs in Korea while foreigners have money to spend and are willing to spend it when products and services we like are brought to market. I mean very little is intended for our consumption as if we don't exist here... Well, there is the tiny eeny beeny Red Door in Itaewon that specially caters to foreigners, but I haven't seen much of anything else that is out to cater to my needs and wants. Of course, I am living in an area as Korean as it gets where I only know 5 other foreigners so I might be missing out on what is available outside of Daegu Costco, Seouls' Red Door, and Korean stores all over. I do find a few things like peanut butter, jelly, bread, eggs, spagetti sauce, and small jars of salso, but all is over priced and actually intended for Koreans seeking a small exotic fix of foreign taste.
