| ok ok...i totally forgot about this but I got a new passport but my work visa is still in the old one.....what am I supposed to do? |

| When I did this I had to bring the old one to the airport along with the new. |

Just a couple of months back when I got my new passport, I went down to Immigration with my old and new passports and got my Visa transferred to my new passport. I don't think it cost anything, I was also extending my Visa at the time (that did cost) and only took a couple of minutes.
I think going to Immigration and getting your new passport recorded and Visa stamps transferred onto your new passport is definitely what Immigration would like you to do. Though, it probably isn't too much of a problem as long as keep your old one with you and just play dumb if you're ever questioned at the airport as to why you never transferred your Visa over to your new passport. |

Pop into the local immigration office and get everything transfered over.
All they really need to do is transfer your re-entry permit. They will probably also add your status of sojoun. it is quick, painless and free.
Technically you are required to do so within 14 days of the issuance of the new passport (you're supposed to report any changes of your status within 14 days) but they are not sticklers on this as long as it gets done. |

| I think that your main concern is that you carry your Alien Registration Card and that it has the proper VISA and dates on it. I guess it is safe to also get your butt down to Immigration ASAP and have the stamps put in. |

What he said but MAKE SURE you new passport number gets put into the system.
Last year I got a new passport and as soon as I had it I went to Immigration with it, my old one, my ARC, and my boss. The guy at the desk told me "Ok."
I said "Thats it? I don't need to register it with you? You don't need to transfer my work VISA?" Which my boss translated.
Immigration guy said "No. Thanks for letting me know."
I said "Really?" Which was translated.
He replied "Yes." And we left.
4 months later I go to get a re-entry VISA for a trip and the Immigration guy freaks and gets pissy with me when I hand him my new Passport. "Why didn't you bring it in to be registered? Yadda yadaa."
I spent 30 minutes being grilled about my school, me, and foreign teachers om general before I was handed my passport back (registered now) with a grunt. I did tell him about coming in 4 months earlier but he paid about as much attention to that as someone at the passport office back home would have.
Long story short. Bring the new passport along with the old to be registered. If they say it doesn't have to be get it in writing with they stamp/signature so you can bring that with you later. If not you could be screwed over. |
