let me get this straight ,
if i order a bunch of second hand books or new books off amazon , will everything in the shopping basket be sent to me at the same time so Im only paying for shipping on one box or are each of the books shipped seperately ?
This might seem like a stupid question but its confusing because im not sure if the second hand books are sent by individual third party sellers or by amazon themselves ,
pleasea hhelpa mee |

I was under the impression that Amazon shipped stuff when it was available, so an order of 10 things could, stupidly, come in 10 different boxes which would mean 10 shipping charges.
Why go through the hassle? Just order from What the Book? in Itaewon. he has free shipping, a huge number of books that you can order from his website, and a a ton of used books in the shop. Best place to buy English language books in Korea in my experience. That is...unless you want textbooks or ESL stuff.

| Yep. I was looking to order 6 second hand books from Amazon, and the total cost came to about 120 000 won, more than half of which was for shipping. Instead I just bought them all brand new through whatthebook for about 100 000. |

| Customs has been known to screw people who get shipments in Korea, including Amazon.com shipments. Customs will hold your package with a tight grip until you spooze out money onto them, then they will release it and walk away. |

I have ordered a fair amount of books from Amazon over the years ... from overseas. The second hand books are sent from whoever is selling them - ie from the Seller not from Amazon ... which does mean separate shipping costs from each buyer. The new books are sent from Amazon and there is an option to either elect to get all the books in one shipment ... or as they become available. Electing to get the books in one shipment does mean cheaper shipping than electing the "as they become available option". This does not mean that they will all come in the one shipment ... Amazon ships different categories of books from different parts of the world and it is common in my experience for the shipment to be split ... but this does not mean more shipping costs ...
I have always been happy with Amazon's service ... but I now that I am in Korea rather than Australia I have used What the Book? a couple of times now and been happy with the service and the cheaper shipping costs ... Net result is a little cheaper ... I think now I would probably take the What the book? option if the book was available that way ...
To me both are good options.

Shameless plug for Chiaa...
Why don't you just go to Itaewon and visit WHAT THE BOOK store. The owner is a native English speaker and he has thousands of used books. He'll order whatever he doesn't have and at a great price. |

| There are a few children's books I'd like to buy such as CDB and Where the Wild Things Are, but What the Book doesn't carry them and you have to pay double for them to be shipped here from Amazon. Anyone know any alternatives? |

| I've never ordered used books from Amazon, but I did order new ones once. It took 6 weeks and cost 40% more than the listed price, after shipping. Since then, I've stuck with whatthebook. |
