Would someone tell the Associated Press that the hagfish needs to get in line?

http://www.guardian.co.uk/worldlatest/story/0,,-6723603,00.html

Quote:
The hagfish is a bottom feeder so repulsive it had a cameo on TV's ``Fear Factor.'' It slimes its enemies, has rows of teeth on its tongue, and feeds on the innards of rotting fish by penetrating any orifice.

But cooked and served on a plate, it is considered an aphrodisiac in South Korea.

...and so is everything else. If it's vaguely cylindrical, it's "good for male health."

I was at dinner with students a while ago, and we were served a pancake with flat green herbs embedded within. The gentlemen nudged it toward my sweetheart, and intimated that it was "good for male health."
Another adjosshi sighed and said "I really like that dish, but my wife won't let me have any." Awwwww.

She's probably tired of his false horniness. Like that girl who used to come in to the coffee shop every day and start bouncing off the wall like a giddy idiot because of all the caffeine and talking about how "high" she was from it so we secretly switched her to decaf and she continued with the high on caffeine routine. Annoying, yes, but revolting if it's your spouse, I'm sure.

You know another hilarious one? Oysters. They look sort of like female sex organs so some people think they aphrodisiacs. Also common are phallic foods such as mushrooms or asparagus.

You what's good for 'stamina'?

Viagra.

I love how good money is spent on various witchdoctor brews and how dogs are inhumanely treated all to create a placebo effect of horniness in middle-aged men. Guys!! Put down that dog-bone!! This little blue pill will give you a 2 hour erection every time you take it!!!!

When I'm feeling most cynical about koreans I tend to think how readily they believe any 'stamina' food or 'well-being' craze.

Hagfish. That thing sure got the sh*t end of the stick when they were handing out names. Not as bad as the f*ggotbird, though.

I have to feel sorry for a little flower that grows on the prairies called "B*stard Toadflax." To compensate, I'm naming one of my children after it.

What foods provide zinc?
Zinc is found in a wide variety of foods (2). Oysters contain more zinc per serving than any other food, but red meat and poultry provide the majority of zinc in the American diet. Other good food sources include beans, nuts, certain seafood, whole grains, fortified breakfast cereals, and dairy products (2,9). Zinc absorption is greater from a diet high in animal protein than a diet rich in plant proteins (2). Phytates, which are found in whole grain breads, cereals, legumes and other products, can decrease zinc absorption (2, 10, 11).(Refer to Table 1: Selected Food Sources of Zinc lists a variety of dietary sources of zinc.)

http://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/cc/zinc.html

Zinc, Testosterone and Men's Health
Zinc is necessary to maintain normal serum testosterone. Inadequate zinc levels prevent the pituitary gland from releasing luteinizing and follicle stimulating hormones, which stimulate testosterone production.

Zinc also inhibits the aromatase enzyme that converts testosterone into excess estrogen. The testosterone to estrogen ratio in men declines with aging from a high of about 50:1 to half of that, or even a low of 10:1. Higher estrogen activity results in increasd risk of heart disease, weight gain, and obesity.

One reason for the progressive weight gain with age is that fat cells contain aromatase. More fat cells mean more estrogen which means more fat deposition.

This is further aggravated by alcohol consumption, which lowers zinc and increases estrogen, and so magnifies the problem.

In addition to the impact on hormone levels, zinc also has been proven to help the body produce healthier sperm by increasing sperm count and motility. A USDA study found that semen volume dropped 30 percent when zinc intake was low. Research published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that male volunteers who consumed low amounts of zinc exhibited decreased semen volumes and serum testosterone concentrations.

Zinc deficiency has been found to have a severe impact on the male prostate gland. Zinc deficiency predisposes the prostate to infection (prostatis) which may lead to enlargement of the prostate gland (prostatic hypertrophy).

Yes, and leaving a fan on when you sleep causes suffocation and dehydration.
