|

The laptop that my school gave me is a POS, but today they agreed to buy me a new one. I don't know much about laptops since I've only owned desktops. Can anyone recommend a decent machine for up to 1.5million, maybe 2.0. Since the school is buying this they obviously want it to last for several years. Thanks |

IBM (LENOVO) Thinkad T60.
A nice magnesum bodied workhorse.
Cheaper is it's little brother the R60 - a bit bigger still a lovely machine.
OF course you could always buy a Samsung |

Really? I was just looking at the Dell site 20 minutes ago. I owned 2 Dells while I was in university a few years ago and never had a problem with them.
I'm looking at Samsung, LG, HP and maybe IBM. My co-teacher confirmed that I can spend up to 1.5 million |

Well, I may be able to get them up to 2.0 since my co-teacher said that I could spend up to 2.5 earlier today. She checked the prices of Samsungs at Gmarket and Interpark and then said 1.5.
Even at 1.5 I've seen quite a few Macs on Danawa |

You can get a MacBook for 1.2ish if you use the teacher's discount. The only problems may be is that no Korean has a clue how to use it and it doesn't play nice with IE (which is a bonus in my opinion). |

Though I would like to try and get a Mac, I seriously doubt they will allow me to buy it since the school is furnished with PCs. When I decide to leave, would anyone even know how to use it? I already had to reformat my notebook so I could get an English OS, so I can't really imagine the school reformatting the Mac back into Korean, let alone anyone being able to actually use it |

You may want to pass on the T60. It has motherboard problems and is generally less reliable than the older T series. I have a T42 and although I'd like the power/size of the T60, I'd rather have the peace of mind from knowing that the T42 is true IBM and more reliable (in general). |

Macs can run windows both through emulation and natively through boot camp. I use boot camp and windows runs faster than my previous 64bit pc notebook. The new macbooks were just updated and use the best componentry in the industry. If I didn't have a macbook pro I would buy a macbook myself, great computers! |
