I think it's called Club Evans
Jazz club with a chilled atmosphere and good music (if your into that of course)
Couple blocks down from Hongig University... |
It's halfway between Hongik U. and Sangsu station, above the 7-11 on the right (has a small nondescript white sign that's easy to miss). 7000 won cover on weekends. Set times are 7:30pm, 9pm, and a late show (11pm?), but get there at least 30 minutes before the set starts, otherwise you'll be standing against the back wall.
GoGo's: The heir apparent to Route 66 - with cheaper drinks. Hang a right into the alley beside the 7-11, it's on the 2nd floor across from Brix. 1000 won shots of tequila, 2000 won bottles of Prime Max. It's English Teacher City in there - never seen a GI and very little in the way of local talent...but you can get loaded for virtually nothing in there! |

GoGos ended up being better. Same gimmick but better music and atmosphere. And no cover for guys. |

Go to "The Bar" in Sinchon. It's dirty and the bathrooms are absolutely disgusting, but the atmosphere is great! |

It's actually the bar under "The Bar". I'd write the full name, but I can't post in Korean on this board from my Mac. All my friends call it "Nori" sinse that is the first word in the full name. |

I miss Aura. I'll have to check out Yohimbe sometime. Bricxx is pretty chill with the right people. It's got it's douchebaggery too though. FF has a pretty bad setup for a live venue but it can be alright at times. The bar above FF plays some pretty good music at times. |
Last time I was in Bricxx a fellow threw on a black ski mask and started chanting "Tiocfaidh Ar LA!" For the non-Irish it generally means "Our day will come!" a once popular IRA chant. Not exactly something you expect to hear from an American in Korea, eh? |
How do you know he was American? |
He was sitting at the table next to me, so I overheard him in casual conversation. |

This is a litte off topic, but are these recommended areas to live in as well? Sinchon and Hongdae sound cool to party, but does anyone know about the l-i-v-i-n? |

As other posters have said, Nori in Shinchon is a good place to hang out. Song requests, graffiti on the tables/walls, dancing. It can get pretty crowded, but it's fun.
Is Rolling Stone still around? I heard that it had closed, but that it opened up again. |

I live in Shinchon and I absolutely love it. I imagine I'll spend the rest of my Korea days living here, although I have toyed with the idea of moving to Hongdae. |

Yeah, it's still there. About 2 months ago, it was closed down for two weeks. One of the staff got married so I guess they all got time off. |

Because anyone doing anything even remotely violent is obviously an American... duh. |

As I said before ... I heard his American accent later in the evening when he wasn't screaming Republican slogans. And, being an American myself, I'm fairly confident in my assessment. Duh. |
