Well i'm finally making the pilgrimage to T-land. I have my ticket, but i don't really know what i'll do yet.. something along the lines of hanging out at a peaceful beach sans the tourist traps.

any suggestions appreciated

Three weeks in just Phuket? Or three weeks in Thailand? I have tons of suggestions, but first, I need to find out a bit more about what you're interested in and what your budget is. Are you looking to party? Do you like museums and temples? Will you be traveling alone? Will you be staying in guesthouses or hotels? Do you want to go off the beaten path? Or do you plan on hitting the usual tourist spots? (a tourist spot isn't necessarily a tourist trap). Smile

Also, why Phuket? You can PM me if you like!

Phuket is shite.

If you are wanting beaches and limited nightlife try some of the islands on the south west coast near the Malaysian border.

Samet off the coast of Rayong,

Murton Resort - private island resort with reasonable rates near Samet.

Some of the small islands down the back of Ko Chang are really excluded and rather nice.

haha! Laughing You won't find that in Phuket.

You'll find tons of old fat europeans trying to get a tan on the beaches of Phuket.

Even the islands around Phuket have been ravaged by tourists.

Yeah, you're not going to find that in Phuket. It's one of the most expensive places in Thailand, and full of fat tourists who just saw the movie "The Beach". Pretty much anywhere else is better. Like squirrel said, Koh Chang and little islands around there will offer you seclusion. Hell, even Koh Phangan on the other side offers more secluded beaches than Phuket. There are still tourists, but if you stay away from Haad Rin the beaches are beautiful and aren't loaded with hippies.
