For those who have gone to Hong Kong, what are the best things you did there?

HK is one of the best cities in the world.

Check out the food, the shopping, the peak, the sitting buddha, the food, the nightlife, the food, the interesting older areas, the food, Macau (if you like casinos and the associated entertainment) and the food.

Just exploring both sides of the city, catching the ferry around and eating should take up a few days at least.

I couldn't wait to leave Hong Kong. It is a cultureless, consumer's paradise. It feels like one huge shopping mall. The harbor view is amazing, but that gets old very fast. The restaurants are great, but that definitely doesn't save it from being a miserable, depressing reminder of where this world is headed. blah.

Realized that the woman I thought was my best Korean friend was indeed a shallow, vain, mindless twit.

We're not friends anymore.

Most expensive friendship lesson ever. But so worth it.

This should help.

If you want a relaxing day go to the outlying islands. I have been to Cheung Chau, you can rent a bike and travel the island or swim on a private beach.

I've been to Hong Kong six times, but haven't been there since 1999. That said, it's an AMAZING city filled with great shopping and dining. It's hot, polluted and can get smelly, but man, Hong Kong is DA BOMB! Of course, it's not for the budget minded traveler but then again, Seoul ain't cheap, either.

Definitely go to Hong Kong if you haven't already.

Fantastic place to visit! However, if the overcrowding, pollution, etc gets to you, there are a couple hundred islands which you can visit and enjoy a slow-pace, olden day lifestyle. Most people never know that HK is actually surrounded by numerous parks and greenery.

I agree with lowpo: Cheung Chau is so relaxing compared to the city! Definitely get away and spend a day there. There is a long winding trail that follows the ridge of the hills and winds around the entire island through the forest and you'll pass fishing villages, cemeteries and waves splashing on the rocks. Bring a flashlight too so you can crawl into the legendary pirate cave at the far end of the island.

Shenzen is fun; the minority cultural village theme park is really interesting. They have shows and reproductions of the homes of all of China's ethnic minorities. You can also buy a pass to the adjacent miniature theme park with mini reproductions of famous landmarks in China and around the world. The park is even shaped like China!

Whenever I go to HK I spend most of my time in the green places, like HK park and the outlying islands. Go to http://www.discoverhongkong.com/ for suggestions for walking tours.
