Now in my lifetime I have worn many pairs of trousers, some for numerous years and to my knowledge none have worn away except at the knee and obvious wear areas.

However in the 10 months I have come to Korea 4 out of the 5 pairs I brought with me have worn away where the two legs meet. I am down to my last pair (With maybe one other still just about wearable pair) and don't know why this is happening.

I am not doing anything different, I'm not riding broomsticks, or barebark horseriding yet they are all wasting away. I repeat this does not happen in England where I have owned some of these trousers for 2 or three years without problem.

Anybody else had this happen? Is there anything I can do to save the last pair of trousers I have or will I have to resort in walking around in my underwear for my last month here?

Where did you buy your jeans?

That has happened witha few pairs of my jeans as well. They were all Shane jeans I believe. I haven't a clue why that has happened....

This happens from your thighs rubbing together, happens to me with ALL my jeans when I gain a few pounds. It's not the trousers, it's you.

Either you walk more in korea than back home or you've gained weight and your legs became thunderthighs or you've been clinging onto those brass poles in itaewon. Very Happy

It's the air pollution mixing with the bacteria which feed on the sweat secreted from the groin region. This combination produces a corrosive by-product commonly know throughout Asia as Acidigroinularhydesol or AHG. As far as I know the only remedy is to dab the inside of the problem area in the trousers with kimchi and a few drops of soju.

Haha kimchi and soju eh? Why am I not surprised!

Actually, I've had the same problem here in Korea, but I've actually lost weight since being here (roughly two sizes). I do walk a lot more though.

Perhaps the kimchi and soju is worth a shot (jk).

Schmucks.......Dude, I heard about that happening from this girl that warned me. It is something to do with the violence and/or the water & detergent in your machine. I was told not to bring my treasured clothing for this very reason. I only have treasured clothing so I was clearly upset over learning that "jeans dissolve" in korean machines. Maybe its the oscilating thing in the center if you have one in it.

Happens often to my jeans/trousers.

It's the poor quality of clothes here (poor stitching and materials).

WRONG. That may be true for your clothing but this girl told me she had LEVIS, that that was mad impressive or something and she was so mad that they got destroyed. She was like, I purposely bought strong jeans over because I was warned about this, and now I'm warning you. She was really clear about it being the machines and it being very well-known,

I am leaning towards it being the machines I think. Yes my weight has fluctuated dince I have been here, but that has been up and down and this also happens in the UK so its not a Korea unique experience.

It also cannot be the fault of the clothes as these are clothes I brought from England which I have owned for at least a year. So maybe you need to buy jeans made out of gold in order to prevent the dissolving problem.

(Would the cheapest pair of jeans in Dongdaemun survive in Korea for 6 weeks do you reckon?)

I agree with the washing machine causing the fault. There might be a setting on your machine that does a gentler cycle. I know mine does.

I JUST remembered she said the potency and acidity of the soap was INSANE THERE. I always use a tidbit here and she said used LESS there. Its the soap, wow, I'm glad I just remebered that. She also said it was impossible to get the unitchy kind if you have that problem with cheapo detergent like I definitely do. Its a concern....

THis is the one.

Sweat and friction aren't good for the survival of the jeans.

Um, just about to hit nine years here and have never had that problem. All my jeans are Korean jeans....the ones I have now are the cheap ones I bought from a subway vendor for 5,000 won a pair.

For me its the underwear.....thank goodness for Christmas/birthdays when the folks replenish the stock. Blame it on the washing machine/detergent.
