Hi there,

We are in the process of accepting a job, but the director won't put in cable TV in our apartment - does any one know how much this would cost us each month? We hopefully want to get an internet/cable tv combo - any idea on the costs of these? Will we have to pay a big installation fee?Thanx a lot!

i had my ct get the installation set up. So, i'm not sure about installation fees, maybe it's included in my bill over a few months. I haven't noticed. But, compared to Canada, tv cable is dirt cheap. Internet is about the same price. I pay i think 7000 won for tv and 32,000 for internet.

It depends on where you live and what service you buy. If you are in a large city like Seoul or Daejeon, I would suggest getting Sky Life for your tv and Hannaro or some other internet. It will be a little more expensive, but worth it. I am in Wonju now and Sky is more expensive here than in Daejeon, so I opted for a cable TV/internet combo and am paying 30,000 a month.

Your best bet is to have a Korean friend call the companies in your area and see who offers what and for what price. BTW, I have been in Korea 9 years and have never heard of an employeer providing (did I spell that right) cable tv and internet at home for the teachers. At the office, yes, but not at home.

mine was already set up when i got here... 50,00 for cable, internet, and maintenance fees.

I live out in the sticks in Gyeonggi province a couple hours from Seoul. My broadband Internet was 27,000 won and my regular basic cable TV was around 7000 won, but a couple months ago the AFN channel started coming in very weak, so I upgraded to digital cable (same company as IP - "I -Digital/ T-Broad")

I think the regular price of the Digital Cable is also around 27,000 won, but my combined promotional rate for the first month was 31,000 won, and it's 42,000 won this month...

The recepition is very good, but the digital cable remote (in Korean) is very complicated, and I mostly just watch the regular cable channels (which now come in better...)

As they have already said it does depend upon where you are ... I am in Gyeonggi and my school did help to get it connected up ... My package is for both Cable TV and Internet and I am paying 27,000 won a month. I know that it is under a 3 year contract (by school or one of teachers) but I pay for all the cost of it.

I would have paid the extra to get Sky channel for the extra English channel options ... but it was not allowed in my building (by landlord) ... so I have gone with the maximum number of cable channels I could get...

I am happy with it and with the price ... and thinking about it now a couple of months down the track I am not sure if the extra channels I would have got with Sky would have been worth the extra money ...

About four years ago, I got Sky TV (satellite cable) when I was in Gangneung (on the east coast...) and there was a 90,000 won installation charge.

Also, Sky didn't carry the AFN channel, which is at least good for consecutive Jay Leno - Dave Letterman - Craig Ferguson shows, starting at 10:30 pm every weeknight...

Just got internet and a phone from http://www.hanaro.com/eng/
27,000won a month no installation fee and u get a free home phone.
Not sure about the TV cable but I'm sure they got a package for that as well and I'm sure it's cheap.

OP,

Which cable TV and internet connection depends on where you live. What price and what service varies from region to region. The comments here are all well and good but until we know which -gu (district) of Korea you live in then nothing concrete can be offered.

Of course, the satellite providers, namely Skylife, operate everywhere.
