Okay, Freaka said:
But it is an issue. "She deserved to be raped" is a quote straight from off these boards.
I'm saying:
Yes, you're right. I think I'm not being quite clear. I'm acknowledging that there is a problem, but that there SHOULDN'T be, because these types of comments shouldn't be allowed in the first place. |
Aah...I see. So we essentially agree! (lol) |

Only if it were this easy to solve all the disputes on this board. See what can happen when two people argue their points intelligently without resorting to rude and personal insults! People do see eye to eye sometimes! Miracles do happen! |

Y'know, women are complaining about the mysogyny on Dave's but I don't hear much from people about some of the other cRap on this place. What about the anti-korean stuff? Is that better? Or is it not worth mentioning, or what?
I mention that because there's complaints about what people said and it seems like some are saying that those comments that are mysogynistic should be banned. Is it any different from other garbage? Why? Are we less offended? So our feelings got hurt? Threads moved in a chaotic direction and words were said that were offensive to others. OH MY GOD! You have some choices here, accept that some people either are disagreable and/or like to rile people up but that this is the internet, get into an argument with them, or get huffy and try to ban them. Frankly, the last choice is the lamest one. It doesn't do anything. All it does is force the truly disturbing people into hiding.
Which comes back to the rape thread and the mysogyny thread. Guess what, we had people respond and now a lot of us know how other people think. We know who the a$$hats/morally disagreeable ones are.
Part of the idea of a forum is exchange ideas, sometimes that means listening to people who are repellant to you. At least that way, you will know what they think and you may know how to argue against them.
This isn't meant to be against the OP, I think she wants to explore ideas or at least understand others' thinking.
Freaka, leave Jinju alone, just stop it. He's that version of the classroom jack4ss, who likes to poke at people to hear them yell stop it. You haven't been covering yourself in glory either here. And if you think he's a bully and a stalker, boy are you innocent! |

| Hey, Ill be the first to admit Im not the nicest guy on this board, but there are boundries I wouldnt cross. And one would be to insult another person's family members. If you have an opinion and I disagree with it, expect that Ill call you on it. However, I will NOT call your wife/husband/parents/kids names. Thats something I wont do. I might be disliked by many but if you think about it objectively, if thats even possible for some of you, our disagreements are always about the opinions we hold. I might argue hard for my point of view but I dont get personal and I rarely call people names. And I NEVER call anyone's loved ones names. |

Um, I took a nap, but I read this thread over and it still hasn't been explained to me :
How is it that calling someone's wife a "blow-up doll" is not misogyny? Just the fact that the comment was made by a woman? Any rational person can look at that and see that if a man had said it, it would quickly be labeled as such. And it it would be.
Guess what? It is, no matter WHO it comes from.
Jinju is exactly correct for demanding an apology. A man could not claim with any credibility to love a woman - hell, even as a friend - without doing AT LEAST that.
I'll note that what the two of are agreeing on something borderline-monstrous, as well : that mods should censor comments from men that YOU think are "insensitive" (or something) but that "ladies" such as freaka there can make any hateful and hurtful comment about other women they choose ...
Again. Aigo.
Clue : The thread is about BOTH "Misogyny" AND "Hypocrisy." Think about it. |

| I'm just curious if the western girls in Korea actually see and experience this "Misogynistic" attitude in the real (Korea) world, or is it only limited to this board. |

Last year at my hogwan, my boss treated his foreign teachers great, but was the worlds biggest ass to his female Korean teachers. Loved his male Korean teachers, but would flat out say to the females "you need to wear more skirts to work, we want pretty girls here". She has gone out of her way to get a Masters in TOSEL or TOEFL, which technically meant she qualified for a pay raise, but he flat out said he wouldn't give it to her. She was the pretty face, not the brains of the operation. He never said any of this stuff to me personally, cause he knew he had to keep the foreign teachers happy. Always complimented me on my ability to teach, and my skills with the kids. But to Korean female staff, he wasn't so nice (I witnessed it).
I've experienced it at home too though. I had a teacher in High School who made his seating plan so that all the females sat at the back of the room, males at the front. He claimed he needed the brighter ones, with more ability to have logical debates at the front. I dropped the class and lodged a complaint with the principal. He was gone by the second semester. I feel a lot of the females in that class complained about that guy.
It's everywhere, and it simply sucks. |
