-Why and when did addiction's definition change to meaning, mood altering? I know people who are yes on-line game addicts. However, its not like they hyperventilate and die if they lose their internet connection for a day or two.
-I really hate the term addiction when it is used about anything besides hard-drugs and booze. I don't care what you say about the DSM IV either, as I recall a few 'conditions' being 'removed' from the list as well as a few being added.

At the very least it's a sign of low self-esteem, little willpower and a next to nothing attention span

Going by your typical Penny Arcade fanboy: yes.

It's got nothing to do with the thing you are addicted to. It's all about the personality behind it and how you become addicted in the first place. If someone is addicted to alcohol, and you take away the alcohol, they will just turn around and addict themselves to something else.

-If you take away the alcohol they display physical and physiological sympthoms of alcohol withdraw such as shaking hands, and sometimes neurological problems like hallucinations. If you take away World Of Warcraft, nobody is going to die. Until I see medical sympthoms associated with sudded cancellation of on-line games I don't feel we should be saying addiction. Perhaps over involvment, but hardly addiction. Thats like saying McDonalds is addictive, because I don't want to stop eating fries.
