So...of course it's a no-no in the world of fashion to wear socks with sandals, but the rancid cheesy odor of a pair of sweaty feet in sandals is enough to make me wretch.
Any thoughts? |

I wear socks with my sandals, but not because my feet would otherwise reek.
1. I want to protect my sandals from my feet. They will last longer if I wear socks. Case in point...have worn my sandals nearly every day for the past 2.5 years and they do not stink nor are they discolored.
2. My toes are not attractive and I don't want to subject anyone to the sight of them much less look at them myself.
3. The tops of my feet are easily sunburned and not only do I not want to be constantly applying sunblock to my feet, I don't want the sunblock ruining my sandals.
4. Sometimes I go places where you are supposed to remove your shoes upon entering...bare feet are frowned upon if you aren't a child.
5. They only people who find the socks and sandals combination to be an abomination are foreigners and personally, I find what a lot of foreigners wear to be an abomination, so we are even. |

No, never have.
But my time overseas has made me think:
I couldn't care less whether others do. |

I usually wear socks cause dust and dirt combined w/ rubbing straps irritate my feet. But I don't wear socks w/ me flip flops around the Mu Baan. |

Socks with sandals may be a fashion taboo but, it's oh so comfortable!!! I do it about half the time I'm wearing sandals. Just little sports socks. Big white knee-socks is where I draw the line. |

Never, never. If I do that I may as well sport a bandana, buy a backpack and some crap sunglasses from a stall on a street. Its the thin edge of the wedge.
I also don't understand the whole sweaty feet thing. Wouldn't socks make your feet seat more? |

you may as well be asking "grateful dead and human ears, yea or nay?" to which the answer would be a resounding "nay". |

Pasty white feet at the beach? No thanks.
Sandals, yes. With socks, no.
But for those of you who live in a big city I don't get why one would pound the pavement in sandals in the first place. |

Two points:
1) How do the locals feel about it? (There are, after all, few waygooks to pass judgement. . .)
2) What about socks with sandals when you're wearing long pants? |

Flip flops fall into the sandals category?
I think it depends on where you go. If you are going to work or walking around the city then socks are ok. If you are going to the beach, hiking, or some other outdoorsy activity then no socks. Of course, keep an extra pair of socks in your bag or something just in case you gotta step inside a restaurant. |
