I am American, but not an American soccer supporter. I love me some Korea. But I was just watching the us canada game on my slingbox and Canada got robbed.
They scored a goal 4:10 into injury time that should have been 4:00. The goal got waved off because of an offsides call. The sad thing is, the guy wasn't offsides at all.
Canadian players were ready to fight after the game and rightly so. America stole that game because they CAN'T get knocked out by Canada in the semi-finals on their home soil. Pathetic |

| Pretty crappy deal, but nothing can be done now. Maybe we should be like Koreans and cancel all of our travel plans to the states. |

I don't think it's a matter of nationalism.
It's more about crappy refs; but sometimes it goes for you.
Something has to be done about inconsistent reffing in soccer (and I don't know what). |

| Yeah, it really pisses me off that the US team has said, "well that is what the ref called, so it WAS offsides." I would love to see their reaction when that call goes against their panzy arses. 16th in the world, fifa must be out their mind. |

Do you have a link for that?
That is ridiculous that anyone would say that with a straight face.
EDIT: The cbc quoted: http://www.cbc.ca/sports/soccer/story/2007/06/21/canada-us-gold-cup.html
.

"Their player headed the ball down into the box and our player kicked it in," Canada coach Stephen Hart said. "If one of their players played the ball back, it's a back pass and it cannot be offsides. That's how I saw it."
Canada forward Dwayne DeRosario agreed.
"It was definitely a goal. No question," he said. "It's very frustrating."
Onyewu said he headed the ball, but still claims Hutchinson was offside.
"I don't think it matters what I thought," he said. "The call was offsides."
|
And that's different from what you said though still basically admitting that he is ignorant of the rules.
That's when you say stuff like "Sometimes you get the calls, sometimes you don't".
It's a good thing this wasn't hockey...there'd be riots in the streets |

| Concacaf and FIFA are jokes sometimes. Check out FIFA's account of the game. NOT a single hint of controversey. Oh, Canada gave them some trouble in the last few minutes, sadly it wasnt enough. Gimme a FUuCKEN break! At least tell it like it is for gods sake! |

Egads, boys. Quit yer whinin! What the refs call ARE the results. The player was right. It's obvious that's what he meant, not that the play was pristine. You can always call for instant replay. It is the ONLY solution to this sort of thing. Otherwise, the ref is judge, jury and executioner and you have no appeals process, so...
You wanna see devastatingly biased reffing? Go back and watch the Seattle vs. Pittsburgh Super Bowl... |

| Quit your whining? That's ripe coming from the mother of all whiners. You are bush's biotch and you litter this forum with your whining day after day, week after week, month after month, year after year. God help us in ten years when you are still moaning about Bush. haha |

Hey, I caught a broadcast of that game and you are correct, Canada got hosed on that offsides call....BUT

This a very stupid thing to say. Excuse me, but the referee wasn't from the U.S. and the linesman that made the call was from Suriname. WTF are you talking about with the U.S. "stealing" the game? The Canadians were ready to fight the Americans because some dude from Suriname made a bad call? What were the Americans supposed to do, award Canada the goal on their own? For what its worth, I will say the Canadians are some of the dirtiest players I've seen...THAT is truly pathetic. |

It was tongue-in-cheek, you un-christian hypocrite. Further, I don't whine about Bush, I enlighten and warn. Now, go flagellate yourself and say ten hail Marys for sinning. |

it was close, the linesman (ok assistant referee but i'm old school) was on the line right and had his flag up at the time of the pass. unless the referee could CLEARLY see there was no offside 95% of the time he's going to blow the whistle.
The linesman should of waited to 1) make sure the ball was either going to the player 2) if not 1) then the player was distracting the keeper or 3) made SURE the player was in an offside position BEFORE raising his flag
the main problem is that the game has speeded up so much and the linesman has so many other responsibilties in that area that he may miss by a 1/4 step the onside player. The only way you are going to fix the problem is via replay (do you really want that in soccer given the interruption of game flow) or you change to a 4 man system with 2 referees and 2 linesmen.
Did Canada get shafted? Maybe. The problem is also outside the US and Mexico, the level of referees in CONCAF is lousy so what do you do at that level of match?
Lets face it these types of decisions will always be a part of soccer until either replay is brought in or the level of officiating around the world is raised |

I watched the entire game, what makes you say they were playing dirty? Are you basing that opinion on other games you have seen? |

No, I believe you simply demonstrated your level of hypocrisy... I could be wrong... except we've seen it before.
