Over the past month, I have been using my air-con whenever I'm in my apartment which is a lot. My bill this month is 70,000, last month it was 10,000. Would using a fan save me much money? I really hate how hot and humid it is without air-con. Do fans work as well as air-con? |

(Sudden mental replay of the opening scene of "Teach me English, Please"...)
How big is your apartment. My aircon barely increased my bill at all. For humidity, maybe try a dehumidifier along with a fan? Also, assumign your apartment is kinda small, are there drafts causing the cold air to escape? What kind of unit do you have? Maybe shop around for a more efficient replacement unit.. or something. |

Haha! That is nothing. I had a bill last year in August for 250,000w. AirCon is your friend, but use it only when you need to here. |

My apartment is a small studio and the main room is totally enclosed with no vents etc. I suspect my 24 hour computer use may be partly responsible. |

Before you leave your apartment, unplug anything that has a transformer, that is a power brick such as for your computer, battery chargers, and video game systems. Also, don't leave your AC running when you leave, only leave your fridge running.
My electric bill runs less than 10,000 a month and I anticipate it should be no more than 50,000 a month with part time AC during the muggy dog days of summer.
Leaving your appliances plugged in and running things while you're out does count towards costing you more Won. Even if it's something plugged in, but turned off, it will cost you as the more hot wiring you have, more electric is seeped through the meter. |

Other posters have warned that the Korean electric bill is progressive.
On the back of my bill it shows the rates increasing as usage increases.
I wonder if they will let me have a whole bunch of tiny air conditioners
on separate meters? |

a fan might save you money, but if you leave it on while you sleep with your door and windows closed you will likely die. are you sure it's worth the tradeoff? |

Maybe someone else's stuff is on your meter.
Unplug everything in your house and
turn off all the lights. (The fridge will be fine for just a few minutes
and I think some fridges need a couple of minutes before being plugged
back in.) Go look at your meter and see if it's turning. Plug everything
back in. |
