My last day at my hagwon will be this upcoming Saturday. My contract will end and then I will be an hourly worker for a couple of weeks. After that, I go to Japan to get a visa for my new hagwon.

I would rather just let my pension money roll over, so I have something that I'm saving up for retirement. What is the process for leaving it in and having the new school contribute? Is this automatic or do you need to go to the office and fill some paperwork out?

My manager seems to think I need to go, but he says I need my plane ticket which I'm not going to get (I'm going by boat, and I won't have a ticket for this either.)

You don't have to do anything to leave the money in the pension fund ... because you can't automatically take it out just because you finish working with one employer .... no matter what your nationality ... Normally it will stay there unless you are going back to your home country ... and it is one of the countries who are covered by an intercountry Social Security agreement which allows for the pension refund.

Another problem with your email is that you talk about working for a couple of weeks after the end of your contract .... Have you got approval for extension of your visa with immigration ... If not then you really must do that .... or risk fines and deportation ... if not bans on being able to work here again ... Not worth the risk ...

Yes, I'm going to immigration this week for the extension, thanks for the headsup though.

You sure I can just leave the money there? My bosses seem sure I need to go, but maybe they aren't used to anyone staying in Korea after their contract is up.

Just keep a copy of your ARC. When you do finally apply for your pension benefits or refund you will need the ARC number that the account is in.

It can remain there from year to year until you are ready to go home.
