Why do you have to look very fast?

Who is putting you under pressure?

OK. so its kind of the "boonies" as far as being close to Western creature comforts, but its not a bad place. Close to the mountains and the river. There won't be many other foreigners out there and its a away from the citycenter. If you want to be more immersed in korean culture or if you like hiking/outdoorsy stuff, then its a good place. If you like nightlife or want to be close to other foreigners and foreign hangouts, then pass.
That being said, having a great job can make a mediocre place great. Having a shitty job makes even a great place shitty and a shitty place even shittier.

Don't rush on a job. Thats how you end up taking a bad one. If they won't pay you for your visa run to Japan, then they aren't worth it anyway. Do your research thoroughly, then sign the papers.
Since you already bought your ticket, you can come over here and have a face to face interview with management and a talk with some current teachers to get the real scoop.

I don't want to be relegated to work and sleep for a year.
I'd like to be social and stuff, and have a life and be able to shop for whatever and whatnot.....public transportation too....I need to be within close proximity to the sea of Japan as well as a real life. Not near china, NK, or too far inland.

These are good recruiters. I am the one that wants the visa, they certainly will pay for the run if the time runs out here.....Its not that, I just want one so I DON'T HAVE TO do the run.

im in bukgu busan, there are foriegners but it's a bit of a hassle being out of town and away from the decent areas, it isn't contryside, there are still subways and everyting, but you have to go into town (25minutes in a taxi) for a decent night out

Most people don't like Ulsan. Its very industrial. That being said, in my opinion, it would be better to be in a good part (foreign nighlife and shopping) of Ulsan than a crappy part of Busan where it takes you 45 minutes on the subway to get anywher worth going.
check out pusanweb.com and I think ulsan's site is ulsanpear.biz and www.theulsanweb.com

If you already have your ticket, why not come and check around first?

It may be a great job, who knows? But it's more likely not so hot.

You want to get your visa beforehand...OK, but is it worth it if you get stuck in a job you hate for a year?

You really need to talk to someone who works there or who has worked there to find out what the place is like.

Preferably someone who has finished a contract and has no ties to the school, they are more likely to give you an honest answer.

Good luck.

Ulsan is quite nice, like kat2 said, it is very industrial, but there are a lot of foriegners (because of the industry) decent shopping, a few decent bars and restaraunts, and you can get to busan in an hour

one thing i like about ulsan is because there are only about 6 proper bars for expat teachers it's very easy to get to know people

I don't do bars. I do do restaurants and shopping and socializing. I don't like industrial and all the toxins in the air and water that come with it....I was going for sea of japan region for the likelihood of less pollution. I do need foreigners...
